Lady Hawks earn bi-district victory

ARP — Taetum Smith set a school record with 38 points in leading the Hawkins Lady Hawks to a 77-18 win over Mount Enterprise on Tuesday in a Class 2A Division II girls basketball bi-district playoff victory at John Mills Parker Gymnasium.

Smith added 14 steals, four assists, and five rebounds. Also, Alaya Scoggins added 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals.



Other contributors for Hawkins: Jentri Evans (9 points, 7 steals); Londyn Wilson (7 points); Alana Gipson (4 points); Karsyn Johnson (3 points); Ava Ellison (3 points, 2 steals); and Haylee Skipworth (2 points).

Smith had five 3-pointers for Hawkins. Adding treys were Evans (2) and Ellison (1).

Kianna Ballard led the Lady Wildcats with eight points, followed by Chasity Garcia (4), Kennedy Keeling (4) and Mallory Innerarity (2).

Hawkins (26-1) advances to the area round to face San Augustine (21-9), a 60-39 winner over Garrison.

Mount Enterprise ends its season at 16-13.

LUCAS LOVEJOY 62, MOUNT PLEASANT 26

SULPHUR SPRINGS — The Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers saw their basketball season come to a close on Monday night in Sulphur Springs as the Lovejoy Lady Leopards claimed a convincing 62-26 bi-district victory. Lovejoy moves on to the Class 5A, Division 2, Region 2 area round to face Frisco Memorial (30-7).

In her first season as head coach, Crystal Jackson James’ Lady Tigers finished at 17-12 after placing third in District 10-5A at 11-5. A pretty good turnaround for a squad that went 6-21 the year prior and placed seventh in district.

The Lady Tigers got 16 points from sophomore Shannon Hines, which included two treys. Another sophomore, Kaylin Brannon, chipped in five points while freshman Khiya Bolton netted four and senior Tyia Allen added one.

Lovejoy was led by senior Aeva Hass, who bagged 17 points, and the junior tandem of Peyton Novicke and Tatum Novicke who scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. Senior Sidney Carr chipped in 13 points.

MINEOLA 47, GLADEWATER 34

The Mineola Lady Yellowjackets notched a 47-34 win over the Gladewater Lady Bears on Tuesday in a Class 3A bi-district playoff game at the Herrington Patriot Center on the campus of UT Tyler.

Lankstyn Lewis paced Gladewater with 11 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Paytin Thompson added nine points and nine rebounds, Khera Lincoln nine points and two rebounds, Karlee Moses four rebounds and Sarya Miles three rebounds.
