BRYAN — Overton receiver Jayden Edwards, Mount Enterprise fullback Kaegan Ash and Elysian Fields return specialist Brandon Kennedy headed up a large contingent of players named to the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 2A All-State Football Team for the 2024 season.
Edwards, Ash and Kennedy were first-team selections on the elite team that was selected by TSWA members based on nominations from coaches and media members from around the state.
Garrison defensive lineman Gavin Pollard also earned first-team honors.
Late Hawkins receiver, Carter Snider, who died in a car accident in November, was among the second-team selections. Snider caught 60 passes for 1,002 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Grapeland offensive tackle Rickie Gilmore, Shelbyville quarterback DJ Barnes, Cayuga fullback Shiloh Peckham, Joaquin defensive back Tate Bass, Timpson punter Cole Bruister Beckville tight end Tyson Oden and Beckville running back Jordan Prince were also second-team selections.
Waskom fullback Nate Espy, Shelbyville offensive guard Jose Gonzalez, Alto wide receiver Tim Bond and Beckville defensive back Aiden Harris earned third-team honors.
Earning honorable mention status from East Texas were offensive tackles, Jabrahlyn Jones of Garrison and Cason Lee of Shelbyville, centers Trace Chamness of Beckville and Eathen Oates of Overton, quarterback Bryce Still of Overton, running backs Kelton Williams of Waskom and J.J. Garner of Timpson, all-purpose standout A.J. Donnell of Frankston, defensive linemen Zaylyn Donnell of Frankston, Jesse Ellington of Grapeland, Jabrahlyn Jones of Garrison and Deandre Prince of Waskom, linebackers Logan Brown of Big Sandy, Carter Cooper of Union Grove, Kit’Raviunce “Tray” Gilmore of Grapeland and Justin Weir of Overton and defensive back Joe Irving of Waskom.
Edwards caught 80 passes for 1,501 yards and 22 touchdowns for Overton in 2024. Ash carried 244 times for 1,960 yards and 32 touchdowns and also caught one TD pass and Kennedy averaged 24.8 yards per kickoff return with one touchdown and 32.7 yards per punt return with a couple of scores.
Kennedy also rushed for 1,195 yards and 14 touchdowns, caught 35 passes for 692 yards and seven scores and recorded 63 tackles, three interceptions, two sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns.
Oden had 28 catches for 494 yards and six scores, and Prince carried 235 times for 2,132 yards and 37 touchdowns.
Espy finished with 105 carries for 900 yards and 11 touchdowns, and Harris had 93 tackles, three tackles for loss, 11 pass breakups, a fumble recovery and three interceptions.
Ganado quarterback Bryce Ullman and Stamford linebacker Kaston Vega were named Players of the Year.
Ullman passed for 2,779 yards and 47 touchdowns and rushed for 300 yards and seven scores in leading Ganado to the Division I state championship.
Vega had 238 tackles and 35 tackles for loss for Division I runner-up Stamford.
Coach of the Year honors went to Ganado’s Josh Ervin.
