TEXARKANA — Jaishua Brown and Geordon Mitchell combined for 38 points and the Lions stayed in the playoff hunt as Tyler defeated Texas High 59-50 on Friday in a District 10-5A basketball game at Tiger Center.



The Lions improve to 18-12 overall and 8-7 in district, while the Tigers fall to 15-12 and 9-6.

Tyler plays host to Mount Pleasant at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lions’ home regular season finale. Texas High visits Hallsville on Tuesday.

In other league games on Friday: Lufkin 72, Jacksonville 27; Mount Pleasant 61, Nacogdoches 39; and Marshall 45, Whitehouse 27. Hallsville had a bye.

Lufkin (15-0), Mount Pleasant (13-2) and Hallsville (10-5) have clinched playoff berth.

The Lions need to defeat MP and hope the Tigers fall to Hallsville, forging a tie for fourth place at 10-6.

Brown led Tyler with 21 points, including a 3-pointer. Mitchell added 17 points with two treys.

Also scoring for the Lions were Keiland Garvey (8, 2 3-pointers), Cameron Singleton (4), LaTavion Golden (4), Jasyn Grayson (30 and Tayvean McMiller (2).

Three Tigers were in double figures scoring — Trevon Ellis (16), Justin Brown (13) and Alex Orr (13, 2 3-pointers).

Also scoring for Texas High were Zadreon Clark (4) and Sheldon Harris (4).

The Lions were 8 of 14 at the free throw line the Tigers were 16 of 27.

Tyler rallied in the second half after trailing 10-5 after the first quarter and 26-21 at halftime.

The Lions doubled up the Tigers in the third quarter (18-9) for a 39-35 advantage heading into the fourth period. Mitchell had eight points in the third with Brown adding five.

In the fourth quarter, Brown had seven points and Singleton was 4 for 4 at the free throw line as the Lions pulled away.

Canton 58, Brownsboro 39

BROWNSBORO — Kaden Smith scored 31 points to help power the Canton Eagles to a 58-39 win over the Brownsboro Bears on Friday in a District 15-4A basketball game.

The Eagles improve to 16-14 overall and 6-6 in district. The Bears fell to 13-16 and 4-7.

Others scoring for Canton were Judson Dyke (15), Ethan Lewis (4), Mason Huson (3), Tucker Brown (3) and Deon Dekkers (2).

Smith had two 3-pointes with Hudson adding one.

Keaton Delaney led the Bears with 14 points. Others scoring for Brownsboro were Mann Scott (7), Lane Shaw (6), Amry Parmer (6), Peyton Brockway (4) and Gabe Hendricks (2).

Scott and Parmer hit 3-pointers.

Brownsboro won the JV game (41-34), while Canton was on top in the freshmen game (34-19).

Canton plays host to Kennedale on Monday in a non-district contest. The Bears visit Mabank on Tuesday.

Troup 50, White Oak 49

WHITE OAK — Caden Graves hit for 18 points and Braxton Barton added 14 as the Troup Tigers defeated the White Oak Roughnecks 50-49 on Friday in a District 16-3A basketball game.

The Tigers improve to 22-7 overall and 8-3 in district, while the Roughnecks fall to 10-20 and 4-7.

Others scoring for Troup were Carter Graves (6), Carson Davenport (6), Keenan Foster (4) and Tre Anderson (2).

Caden Graves connected on five 3-pointers with Carter Graves and Davenport hitting two apiece.

Campbell Sutton led White Oak with 27 points, followed by Scotty Breitenberg (9), Mac Smith (4), Cal Jester (4), Keenan Jalomo (2) and Andrew Rector (2).

Sutton had four 3-pointers with Breitenberg adding two.

Troup won the JV game 25-22.

The Tigers play host to Sabine on Tuesday for Senior Night. JV boys begin at 5 p.m. and the varsity tips off at 6:15 p.m. White Oak visits Tatum on Tuesday.
