Which Tyler-area businesses opened and closed in January 2025?

In the last few weeks of January, businesses opened and closed in the Tyler area.

Among them:

Aztec Urban Mexican Restaurant

Aztec Urban Mexican Restaurant will open at 7918 S Broadway Ave. in Tyler, taking over the former Shell Shack location. This will be the first of five Aztec Urban locations planned for Texas.

The restaurant, which is expected to open at the end of February, will feature a menu of traditional Tex-Mex food with a modern setup and décor.



The Shell Shack, which opened in 2019, closed its Tyler location in November 2022.

Par Five Golf

Par Five Golf announced the closure of its operations on Jan. 21. Owners Jason and Kayla Berrier shared the news in a now-deleted Facebook account, expressing gratitude for the journey, which they described as filled with amazing customers, unforgettable events and joy.

The couple noted the decision was not easy but felt it was the right one at this time. They also extended an invitation for anyone interested in continuing the business to reach out. Those interested can contact the Berriers at parfivegolftyler@gmail.com.

Happy Donuts

Happy Donuts will hold its grand opening on Feb. 5 at 2116 E. 5th St. in Tyler. The new donut shop will offer a variety of baked goods and welcomes the community to visit and try its selection.

The shop aims to provide fresh, high-quality donuts in a convenient location for local residents. Customers can stop by during the grand opening event to experience the menu and meet the team behind the new business.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit on WSW Loop 323, across from the Brookshire Grocery Company Distribution Center, has permanently closed, according to the restaurant’s official Facebook page.

The location is no longer operating as Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and is not expected to reopen under the same brand.

RCH Plastic Surgery

RCH Plastic Surgery, led by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Raven Henderson, is opening a new practice in Tyler, offering a range of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. Located at 2140 W. Grande Blvd. Suite A, the practice aims to provide personalized care to patients in East Texas.

Dr. Henderson, a Tyler native, brings experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery, focusing on treatments designed to enhance both confidence and well-being. She said her goal is to offer compassionate, individualized care to the community.
