Boys Basketball Notebook: LaPoynor’s Cort Reid takes weekly honor

LaPoynor’s Cort Reid has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Boys Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played Jan. 20-25.
After missing 10 games due to spontaneous pneumothorax (detached lung), Reid had 35 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals in his first game back, a district win over Fruitvale that was big for the Flyers in the playoff race.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
Tyler Legacy’s Jayden Jones averaged 18.0 points, 5. Rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in wins over Royse City and Longview. Oes averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals. Gage Nuckolls averaged 9.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game. Josh Hall averaged 11.5 points and 1.5 blocks.
Grace Community’s Peyton Kelley averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists in wins over Cristo Rey, Trinity School of Texas and Austin Hyde Park. He also surpassed the 1,000-point milestone for his career.
Brook Hill’s Beck Langemeier averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists against Austin Brentwood and Austin Regents.
Bullard’s Tyler Lamberth averaged 26.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in wins over Rusk and Hudson.
Athens junior Emanuel Moore averaged 15.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists to help the Hornets move to 8-0 in district. He shot 60.9 percent from the field.
Tyler HEAT’s Waker Hartman had 32 points and four rebounds in a 78-75 overtime win over Grapeland. Hartman had a four-point play to send the game to overtime.
Palestine Westwood’s Kavian Bryant averaged 31.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steal as the Panthers split games with Mexia and Buffalo.
Alto’s Jamarion Rollins had 25 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks in an 80-62 win over Cushing. Chris Johnson had 12 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and a steal.
East Texas boys teams ranked in the TABC rankings are Lufkin (29-2) No. 12 in 5A; Chapel Hill (24-5) No. 25 in 4A; Tatum (20-2) No. 2, Palestine Westwood (15-7) No. 7, Jefferson (19-3) No. 10, Texarkana Liberty-Eylau (28-0) No. 16, Daingerfield (8-3) No. 23 and Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill (21-7) No. 24 in 3A; Martin’s Mill (26-1) No. 1, Shelbyville (20-3) No. 4, Hawkins (24-2) No. 10, Grapeland (16-3) No. 14, Tenaha (23-6) No. 21, Beckville (16-6) No. 22 and Frankston (19-10) No. 25 in 2A; Brookeland (20-7) No. 4, Wells (22-6) No. 9, Groveton Centerville (22-4) No. 10, Broaddus (20-9) No. 13 and Kennard (21-7) No. 24 in 1A; Brook Hill (23-4) No. 7 in TAPPS 5A; and Bishop Gorman (16-6) No. 6 in TAPPS 4A.
East Texas boys teams ranked in the TexasHoops/GASO rankings are Lufkin No. 10 and Mount Pleasant No. 22 in 5A; Tatum No. 2, Palestine Westwood No. 5 and Texarkana Liberty-Eylau No. 10 in 3A; Martin’s Mill No. 1, Hawkins No. 4 and Shelbyville No. 6 in 2A; Brookeland No. 4 in 1A; and Brook Hill No. 21 in the private school rankings.
