Suspect in sexual assault and robbery arrested in Cherokee County

Michael Deshon Thompson, the suspect in a sexual assault and robbery case, was arrested in Cherokee County on Jan. 21.

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Michael Deshon Thompson, the suspect in a sexual assault and robbery case, was arrested in Cherokee County on Jan. 21.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault in progress on County Road 3308, where deputies found two victims. One victim was sexually assaulted, and both were robbed at gunpoint. Thompson fled into nearby woods upon the deputies’ arrival but was apprehended shortly thereafter.

The Cherokee County Criminal Investigations Division and Special Investigations Unit conducted a follow-up investigation, which included executing multiple search warrants. These efforts resulted in the recovery of a firearm and additional evidence connected to the crime.

Thompson faces charges of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, a third-degree felony.

Justice of the Peace Brenda Dominy set bonds at $150,000 each for the sexual assault and robbery charges and $20,000 for the firearm charge.



Thompson is currently being held in the Cherokee County Jail as the investigation continues.
