TJC baseball embarks on the 2025 season with a new coach in charge of the program.
Brett Doe is the new coach after Doug Wren, who led the Apaches to five World Series titles, became the sixth athletic director in Tyler Junior College history.

Doe, who led Navarro College to the NJCAA World Series as a player and an assistant coach, was hired as the new coach in July.
He is a Texas native who comes to TJC after three years as head coach at Dodge City (Kansas) Community College.
“Overwhelmed with how much we enjoy coaching these guys,” Doe said. “It’s nice taking over a program that was in a really good place and also challenging to build on top of that foundation that has been laid. Challenging in a good way, finding small things to adjust that fit with us and how we coach. The players have done a great job buying in.”
The season begins this weekend as the Apaches play host to Frank Phillips College in a three-game series at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Mike Carter Field. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday (first game slated to start at noon), followed by a Sunday contest (noon).
Tickets are $5 (general admission) and $3 (students).
Doe’s staff includes: Eli Egger (assistant coach-pitching), Jamey Richey (volunteer coach) and Jake Carney (strength and conditioning coach).

Doe has brought in a number of transfers and freshmen who join a talented group of returning Apaches.
Garret Carter, a pitcher for Doe at Dodge City, has travel south to join the Tribe’s pitching staff.
Doe believes the 6-0 righty from Allen will play a major role in the team’s pitching rotation this season.
In addition to Carter, Doe highlighted a number of other transfers and freshmen who impressed during the offseason.
Freshman catcher Chase Fuentes (The Woodlands) has already emerged as a leader, while third-year returner Finn Kaiyala (Tyler/The Brook Hill School) will continue to provide stability behind the plate.
On the mound, Doe is excited about a talented crop of freshmen that include Diego Astrada (6-3 RHP, Palestine), Trevor Breaux (6-6 RHP, Houston), Dillon Davenport (5-10 RHP, Carthage), Nate Pendland (6-1 RHP, Spring) and Chris Langley (6-3 RHP, Keller).
“We have a lot of great young arms on this team,” Doe said. “The ceiling is high for these guys, and they’ve really come together during the fall to build a solid foundation.”
Others Doe noted were freshman Landry Stamps (6-2 first baseman/outfielder, Keller) and freshman Sawyer Dunagan (5-11 shortstop, Hallsville).
