Boys Soccer Notebook: Brook Hill’s Jose Gonzalez takes weekly honor

Brook Hill’s Jose Gonzalez has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Boys Soccer Player of the Week honors for games played Jan. 13-18.
Gonzalez had four goals and three assists in two district victories for the Guard.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
Bishop Gorman’s JJ Rodriguez had three goals in regulation against All Saints. Ricky Pineda had three goals against McKinney Christian.
Lindale senior midfielder Will Locknane had two goals and three assists and scored the game-winning goal against Bullard.
Cumberland Academy freshman goalkeeper David Ounda faced 25 shots and stopped 24, posting a save percentage of .960.
Palestine’s Rolando Gallegos had four goals and an assist. Mario Escalante had hat trick against Bridgeport and finished with four goals and an assist for the week. Seby Ledesma had three assists.
In the Lethal Soccer Regional Rankings, Tyler Legacy No. 4 and Longview No. 17 in Class 6A Region II; Whitehouse No. 7, Mount Pleasant No. 11, Nacogdoches No. 14 and Jacksonville No. 20 in Class 5A Region II; and Kilgore No. 2, Palestine No. 4, Pine Tree No. 6, Chapel Hill No. 8, Pittsburg No. 12, Sabine No. 16, Paris No. 20, Mineola No. 21, Center No. 23, Pleasant Grove No. 24 and Lindale No. 25 in Class 4A Region II.
