Boys Basketball Notebook: Martin’s Mill’s Jak Kinder, Archer Schneider take weekly honor

Martin’s Mill’s Jak Kinder and Archer Schneider have earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Boys Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played Jan. 13-18.

Kinder averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in wins over Frankston and Cayuga, and Schneider averaged 28.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in those games.



Kinder scored 17 points and added three rebounds, three assists and two steals in an 84-48 victory over No. 23 Frankston. Kinder was also 4 of 7 from 3-point range in that game, and that fourth 3-pointer set a new state record for 3-pointers made in a high school basketball career with 569, breaking the previous record of 568 previously held by former Martin’s Mill standout Davis Moore.

On Friday, Kinder was 7 of 14 from 3-point range to finish with 23 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals in an 84-39 win over Cayuga.

Schneider had 24 points and four rebounds on Frankston with two 3-pointers. Against Cayuga, Schneider was 5 of 7 from downtown and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line to finish with 32 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block.

In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):

Tyler Legacy’s Ja’Corian Oes averaged 19.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in wins over Rockwall-Heath and North Forney. Zyere Ceasar averaged 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds.

Bullard’s Layne Alexander averaged 25.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block in wins over Madisonville and Palestine.

Grace Community’s Caden Swaim averaged 17.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists in two games.

Tyler HEAT won the Gulf Coast District Tournament in Monroe, Louisiana. In an 83-41 win over Little Rock Flames (Arkansas), John Hall had 18 points, four rebounds and five steals, and Jett Bell had 17 points and five rebounds. In a 66-28 win over PCA Paladines (Louisiana), Waker Hartman had 13 points and five assists, and Coen Starr had 12 points and five rebounds. In a 43-41 win over Muddy River (Mississippi), Hartman had 18 points, and Aiden Shelton added 12 points and five rebounds.

Frankston’s Jake Westbrook averaged 23.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists as the Indians split with No. 1 Martin’s Mill and Fruitvale. Westbrook had 23 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists in three quarters in the 87-51 win over Frutivale.

LaPoynor’s Zade Howard had 24 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in a 66-52 win over Alba-Golden.

Alto’s Jamarion Rollins averaged 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block against Mount Enterprise and Douglass, including scoring 29 points against Mount Enterprise.
