FRANKSTON — Martin’s Mill and Frankston had already met once this season.
A 39-29 Martin’s Mill win on Dec. 10, 2024, was the closest game the No. 1 Lady Mustangs had in its previous 14 games outside of its lone setback, a 45-43 loss to Broaddus in the Tenaha ISD Holiday Hoops tournament in late December.
On Tuesday night inside Robert Loper Coliseum, Martin’s Mill held the Maidens without a first-quarter field goal and led by 20 just more than midway through the second quarter on the way to a 67-35 victory.
A Brilen Butcher triple opened the scoring before buckets by Ruthie Mein and Kara Nixon immediately put the Lady Mustangs ahead 7-0. Frankston got a free throw from Kaysiah Burnett with 4:33 on the clock to cut the score to 7-1 before Martin’s Mill ended the quarter on a 9-0 run.
A jumper by Teely Salazar and then a steal and free throw from Salazar pushed the score to 19-1 early in the second quarter.
Wila Davis hit a runner and a free throw to cut the score to 19-4. A Nixon layup and Butcher three pushed the Martin’s Mill lead to 20, 24-4, with 3:38 left in the second quarter.
The Lady Mustangs went into halftime with a 31-10 advantage.
Frankston doubled its first-half scoring output in the third quarter with 14 points, but Martin’s Mill tacked on 17 more to its tally to lead 48-24 going into the fourth quarter.
