No. 11 UT Tyler women take win

On Saturday, both the UT Tyler Patriots and St. Mary’s Rattlers shot as cold as the temperatures outside of the Herrington Patriot Center.
But it was the No. 11 UT Tyler women who hit more baskets in registering a 37-31 win over St. Mary’s in a Lone Star Conference basketball game.

The victory moved the Patriots to 13-2 overall and 8-1 in the LSC. The Rattlers fall to 7-7 and 3-5.
UT Tyler shot just 14-for-52 on the day and made just five three pointers but they held St. Mary’s to just 11-for-45 from the field and seven three pointers.
Ella Bradley led the Patriots with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting while making a pair of 3-pointers while also adding four rebounds, three assists, and posting four steals.
UT Tyler led 15-11 at halftime.
The third quarter saw a dramatic uptick in scoring, as both teams scored 16 points each. The Patriots shot 7-for-15 in the period as Mileina Sablinskaite and Lovisa Hevinder each scored 5 points to lead the way on offense. The Rattlers kept pace, largely due to making four 3-pointers in the period as they trailed by four heading into the final quarter.
Bradley knocked in another 3-pointer to begin the fourth quarter, and Mariah Neal added a clutch old-fashioned three-point play to give the Patriots a 6-0 run over the first three minutes. The Rattlers would be held to just one made field goal in the period and two free throws as the Patriots took home the win.

Hevinder scored seven points and added team-highs in both rebounds (9) and assists (5).
Also scoring for UT Tyler were Sablinskaite (5), Neal (5), Meagan Mendaona (4), Shaylee McDonald (3) and Polina Latysheva (2).
Imani Ivery led St. Mary’s with 14 points.
The Patriots now hit the road for back-to-back games — 5:30 p.m. Thursday vs. Texas A&M International in Laredo and 1 p.m. Saturday vs. at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
UT Tyler returns home for a Jan. 23 contest against Eastern New Mexico. Tipoff for Bingo Night is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
