Longview boys basketball hit the court against District 10-6A foe Royse City at Lobo Coliseum on Saturday afternoon, and held on late to secure a hard-fought 63-58 win.
The Lobos improved their 2024-2025 season record to 14-8 and District 10-6A record to 2-3, while the Bulldogs dropped their year mark to 13-11 and league mark to 2-2.
Royse City will travel to Rockwall for a 7 p.m. game on Jan. 14. Longview hosts Rockwall during a 7 p.m. home game on Jan. 17.
“It’s really good for us to get a win because we started [district play] 0-3,” said Longview boys basketball coach Sam Weaver. “We came back and picked up one road win [against North Forney] and one home win [against Royse City]. Now, we gotta keep going and try to build on that.”
Longview jumped out to a 10-9 lead in the first quarter because Damorrion Williams produced four early points and both Elijah Lloyd and Trent Jackson earned three.
Williams eventually led the Lobos with 23 points in the win, Jeffery Smith earned 11, and Lloyd followed with 10.
Royse City erased an early 12-9 second quarter deficit and built up a 19-16 lead by the 5:01 mark because Trey Reynolds drained a game-tying three-pointer and Jammel Ward earned the team’s next seven points.
Longview regrouped during a dominant 15-5 charge to build up a 31-24 lead by halftime. Williams led with seven points, Jacorian Stevenson contributed five, Jackson produced a field goal, and Smith split a pair of free throw tries.
Lloyd then guided the Lobos’ 5-2 start to the second half to set up his team’s 36-26 lead by the 6:25 mark of the third quarter.
But, Royse City used a 13-5 stretch to cut Longview’s lead to 41-39 with 1:35 remaining in the period.
Longview then received some space during a 6-0 run to take a 47-39 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Royse City opened the fourth period with a 9-0 stretch to take a 48-47 lead by the 6:14 mark. Ju’Curtis Johnson led with five points, and both Reynolds and Jalen Rollins earned two.
Longview’s Williams then produced the next five points to give the home team a 52-48 advantage at the 4:58 mark.
Royse City’s 7-4 run cut the gap to 56-55 by the 2:35 mark, but Longview’s Smith made three free throw attempts and Stevenson earned a field goal to set up a 61-55 lead with 39 seconds left.
The Bulldogs answered with Tryndon Alexander’s three-ball nine seconds later, but Williams finished off the Lobo victory during two free throws with 11 ticks remaining.
Royse City received 15 points from Ward and 11 from Johnson in the loss.
