Girls Basketball Roundup: Tatum edges Troup

TATUM — Kamdyn Scott scored 13 points to lead the Tatum Lady Eagles to a 34-25 win over the Troup Lady Tigers on Friday in a battle of the top teams in District 16-3A girls basketball.
Tatum improves to 15-5 overall and 6-0 in district while the Lady Tigers fall to 18-5 and 4-2.
Qhenja Jordan led Troup with eight points, followed by Amari Shepard (6), Paisley Skinner (5), ZaQuirah Jordan (2), Violet Eason (2) and Jakeira Davis (2).
Skinner had a 3-pointer for the Lady Tigers.
Others scoring for the Lady Eagles were Aundrea Bradley (8), Kaleigh Hooker (6), Rihanna Harris (4) and Alecia Halton (3).
Scott and Halton had 3-pointers for Tatum.
Troup plays host to White Oak at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Tatum visits White Oak on Jan. 17.
TYLER 64, MOUNT PLEASANT 42
MOUNT PLEASANT — The Tyler High Lady Lions won their sixth consecutive game on Saturday, downing the Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers 64-42.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but potential inclement weather forced a postponement until Saturday.
The Lady Lions to to 24-5 on the season and 10-0 in District 10-5A. Tyler has won 15 of its last 16 games. Mount Pleasant goes to 12-8 and 6-4.
Tyler returns home on Tuesday, hosting Marshall at 6:15 p.m.
Mount Pleasant visits Hallsville on Tuesday.
CHAPEL HILL 40, SPRING HILL 24
LONGVIEW — Aryssa Cooper scored 11 points and had three steals as the Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs stayed unbeaten in District 16-4A with a 40-24 win over the Spring Hill Lady Panthers on Friday.
Chapel Hill moved to 17-8 overall and 7-0 in district. The Lady Panthers dropped to 18-8 and 5-2.
Necie Johnson and Ra’Niyah Suell added six points apiece for the Lady Bulldogs, followed by Tobi Adams (5), Ra’Nyah Tomlinson (4), Ayana McGill Gardner (3), Dinya Griffin (3) and Lorena Taylor Fuentes (2).
Adding rebounds were Suell (6), Johnson (5) and Griffin (4). Contributing steals were McGill Gardner (6) and Johnson (4).
Chapel Hill visits Kilgore on Tuesday with Spring Hill hosting Gilmer on Tuesday.
CANTON 63, ATHENS 26
CANTON — The Canton Eaglettes stayed unbeaten in District 15-4A with a 63-26 win over the Athens Lady Hornets on Friday.
The Eaglettes are 6-0 in district and 21-5 overall. Athens is 11-11 and 1-5.
Chloe Howe led Canton with 18 points with Allison Rickman added 17. Howe and Rickman each had two 3-pointers.
Also scoring for the Eaglettes were Lily Cervantes (12 points, 1 3-pointer), Addison Capps (6 points), Lexi Etheridge (4 points), Emery Martin (3 points, 1 3-pointer), Rylee Busby (2 points) and Izzie Stone (1 points).
HAWKINS 72, LINDEN-KILDARE 21
LINDEN — The Hawkins Lady Hawks completed the first round of District 21-2A play with a 6-0 record after scoring a 72-21 victory over Linden-Kildare on Saturday.
The Lady Hawks are 18-1 overall and 6-0 in district. The Lady Tigers are 3-3 in league.
Taetum Smith tied her career-high in scoring with 36 points. She had a double double after garnering 11 steals. Also, Smith had three assists.
Other contributors for Hawkins were Alaya Scoggins (9 points), Londyn Wilson (9 points), Karsyn Johnson (5 points), Alana Gipson (3 points, 2 steals, 2 assists), Ava Ellison (3 points), Haylee Skipworth (3 points, 2 steals), Abby McQueen (2 points), Jentri Evans (1 point) and Keiper Pruitt (1 point).
Hawkins travels to Ore City on Tuesday.
