Joe Williams was relieved of his duties as Jacksonville Police Department police chief on Thursday after nearly five years in the role.
According to a City of Jacksonville press release, the decision was made by City Manager James Hubbard, who said an alleged “pattern of poor judgment, disengagement and disrespect” led to the termination.
“I wish Mr. Williams well and look forward to naming a new chief that will provide the service and professionalism deserved by the department, organization and community,” Hubbard said.
Assistant Chief Steven Markasky has been named acting chief of police. His leadership is expected to ensure a smooth transition, according to Hubbard.
Details on the process for appointing a new police chief will be announced at a later date.
