BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Chapel Hill goes to 4-0 in district

NEW CHAPEL HILL — The No. 17 Chapel Hill Bulldogs defeated the Gilmer Buckeyes, 68-46, on Tuesday in a District 16-4A basketball game.
The Bulldogs go to 20-4 on the season and 4-0 in league play. Gilmer fell to 6-11 and 2-2.
Two Bulldogs were in double figures — Marquis Collins II (15 points, 1 3-pointer) and Jordyn Bradshaw (12 points, 1 3-pointer).
Also scoring for CH were Malik Gee (9), Isiah Mayfield (8), Anthony Smith (8), Jorden Ford (6), Trevor Brooks (6, 1 3-pointer), Dee Brisbon (2) and Ryder Steele (2).
Smith had 13 rebounds, followed by Mayfield (11) and Bradshaw (9).
Chapel Hill returns to play on Friday, traveling to Longview to meet the Spring Hill Panthers. First games are slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
Gilmer is scheduled to host Cumberland at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
GRACE 65, RUSK 54
Doak Porter scored 22 points and Daniel Shankle added 15 as the Grace Community Cougars defeated Rusk, 65-54, on Tuesday in a non-district basketball game at Galen Taylor Gym in Tyler.
Grace improves to 16-10 on the season as the Eagles fell to 12-7.
Others scoring for Grace were Peyton Kelly (10), Caden Swaim (9), Jack Crawford (5), McCade Stinson (2) and Ian Murenzi (2).
Jermichael Sturns led the Eagles with 13 points.
Also scoring for Rusk were Arthur Hill (10), Adrian Tumblin (9), Chad McCuin (8), Aiden Barrett (7), Zamarion Tilley (4) and Ayden Wick (3).
The Cougars visit Dallas Cristo Rey on Friday, while Rusk hosts Madisonville.
BROOK HILL 50, CRISTO REY 37
BULLARD — Brook Hill broke open a tie game with a big fourth quarter en route to a 50-37 win over Dallas Cristo Rey on Tuesday in a TAPPS 5-A District 2 basketball game at Herrington Gym.
The game was tied 33-33 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Guard won the final period, 17-4.
Roy Rudzinskas led the Guard with 30 points, followed by Majus Afanasjev (9), Zac Ryle (5), Holt Robertson (4) and Luke McNeel (2).
Afanasjev had three 3-pointers.
Jakob Castellon led Cristo Rey with 11 points, followed by Terrance Faircloch (10).
Brook Hill (20-3) will continue district play at Austin Brentwood on Friday.
BISHOP GORMAN 64, ALL SAINTS 46
EJ Coppock scored 20 points as Bishop Gorman took a 64-46 victory over crosstown rival All Saints.
Jaylon Miles had 15 points for the Crusaders, and Beau Bender added 9 points.
Other scorers were Carlin Ifeadi 6; Jack Coan 5; Evan Thibodeaux 3; Ryan Richbourg 3; and Brooks Frans 3.
Richbourg had six rebounds and five steals. Bender had five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Ifeadi grabbed five rebounds with two steals. Miles had three rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Gorman (15-4, 1-0) will play at Dallas Christian at 7:30 p.m. Friday. All Saints (7-6, 0-1) will play at Dallas Shelton at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
CANTON 58, KEMP 45
KEMP — Kaden Smith hit for 25 points to power the Canton Eagles to a 58-45 win over the Kemp Yellowjackets on Tuedsay in a District 15-5A basketball game.
The Eagles go to 13-9 on the season and 3-1 in district. Kemp fell to 10-15 and 1-2.
Also scoring for Canton were Colton Bell (8), Ethan Lewis (7), Brady Lewis (6), Keegan Smalling (4), Mason Huson (4), Nash Fenner (2) and Tucker Brown (2).
Canton hosts Athens on Friday and Kemp visits Mabank.
BULLARD 65, JEFFERSON 53
Jefferson — Layne Alexander, Tyler Lamberth and Campbell Pawlak combined for 49 points as Bullard took a 65-53 win over state-ranked Class 3A Jefferson.
Alexander scored a team-high 18 points for the Panthers. Lamberth had 17, and Pawlak scored 14.
Other scorers for Bullard were Cade Craig 6; Dylan Kress 5; and Caden Cummings 5.
Bullard (15-6) will open district play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Center.
HALLSVILLE 68, CENTER 51
CENTER — In a non-district battle, the Hallsville Bobcats used big second and third quarters to earn a 68-51 win over the Center Roughriders.
Hallsville led by a bucket (17-15) after one, and outscored Center 27-19 over the next two frames to get a little separation.
Grayson Magestro scored 21 points, and David Baliraine had a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double for Hallsville, which improved to 18-7 on the year. LV Williams finished with 10 points and four assists, Gabriel Moore nine points, three assists and three steals and Kobe Gaut eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Hallsville returns to District 10-5A action on Friday at Texas High.
Tim Johnson finished with 14 points and seven rebounds in the loss for Center. JaKevin Robinson added 10 points and seven rebounds, Travis Belin nine points, Jimmarion Smith eight points and 14 rebounds, Jamarious Canton six points and Ja’Kaeden Rodgers and Caleb Mosley two points apiece.
LONGVIEW 52, NORTH FORNEY 44
FORNEY — D.D. Williams scored 15 points in each half, and the Longview Lobos broke into the win column in District 10-6A with a 52-44 victory over North Forney.
Williams finished with 30 points, while Campbell Liebengood joined him in double figures with 10. Elijah Lloyd added seven points, and Jeffery Smith finished with a bucket.
The Lobos (13-8, 1-3) will host Royse City on Friday.
TATUM 105, WEST RUSK 34
TATUM — The No. 2 ranked Tatum Eagles placed six players in double figures on the way to a 105-34 District 16-3A win over the West Rusk Raiders.
Luke Sigler led the way for Tatum with 23 points. JaCorie Bradley was close behind with 22. Cayden Tatum added 14, Quincy Davis, Jordan Chambers and Cooper Whiteus 11 each, Nalayus Boyd seven and Nick D’Souza and Carlos Hernandez two apiece.
Tatum led 20-6 after one quarter and 57-13 at halftime.
ARP 66, SABINE 50
LIBERTY CITY — The Arp Tigers used a big second quarter to take control of things on the way to a 66-50 District 16-3A win over the Sabine Cardinals on Tuesday.
Hudson McNatt had 20 points in the loss for Sabine, which held a slim 17-15 lead after one quarter. Arp outscored the Cardinals 14-5 in the second frame.
London Overturf had 12 points and Colt Sparks 10 for the Cardinals, now 7-15 overall and 1-2 in district play.
OVERTON 80, MT. ENTERPRISE 25
OVERTON — The Overton Mustangs collected an 80-25 District 22-2A win over Mount Enterprise on Tuesday.
Tanner Wilburn had seven points, Jase Webb and Kaegan Ash six apiece, Tracey Thompson four and Bryce Durrett two for Mount Enterprise. Thompson added eight rebounds, and Webb finished with four rebounds, two assists and three steals.
