Boys Basketball Notebook: Canton’s Kaden Smith takes weekly honor

Canton’s Kaden Smith has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Boys Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played Dec. 30-Jan. 4.
Smith averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 10.0 free throws made in wins over Van and Lindale.

In a 43-41 win over Van, Smith had 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and four steals, and he was 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.
In a 40-32 victory over Lindale, Smith had 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals, and he was 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
Tyler Legacy’s Ja’Corian Oes had 19 points and five rebounds in a 64-57 setback to Rockwall. Jayden Jones had 17 points and five rebounds.
Grace Community’s Peyton Kelly averaged 15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists as the Cougars took a win over Groveton Centerville and lost to Brentwood Christian. Doak Porter averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists.
Tyler HEAT’s Waker Harman averaged 17.0 points in wins over Mabank and All Saints. He had 17 points in each game, and he had seven rebounds against All Saints. Coen Starr had 15 points against Mabank. John Hall had 11 points and 11 rebounds against Mabank. Eli Anderson had 8 points and nine assists against Mabank and 10 points and seven assists against All Saints.

Bullard’s Layne Alexander averaged 16.0 points and 4.5 assists as the Panthers went 1-1 with a loss to Longview (60-55) and a win over Marshall Christian Academy (72-54). He had 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Tyler Lamberth averaged 26.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals. He had 33 points, five rebounds and two steals against Marshall Christian Academy.
