Guy B. Cayo has been named chief executive officer for UT Health Quitman, effective immediately, the health system announced Thursday.

Cayo has been serving on an interim basis as administrator for UT Health Quitman since September while retaining his role as CEO at UT Health Pittsburg. He is expanding his leadership responsibilities by now serving as CEO of both hospitals.

“I am honored to lead both UT Health Pittsburg and now UT Health Quitman,” Cayo said. “Together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to share best practices, strengthen our commitment to quality care and expand access to healthcare services for our communities.”

In this new role, Cayo will oversee the strategic direction of both facilities, ensuring alignment in providing exceptional healthcare and fostering a collaborative culture that benefits both hospitals and the communities they serve, UT Health said.

“We are thrilled to have Guy take on this expanded role,” said Donald Baker, UT Health East Texas market president. “Guy’s track record of success and strategic insight ensures a bright future for both hospitals as we continue to meet the evolving needs of our communities.”

Before assuming the Pittsburg CEO position in March 2021, Cayo spent the majority of his career at Kindred Hospital systems. Cayo earned his bachelor’s degree in business management and his master’s degree in health administration from Florida International University in Miami.

UT Health East Texas provides care to thousands of patients each year through an extensive regional network that includes nine hospitals, more than 90 clinics, the Olympic Plaza Tower, 13 regional rehabilitation facilities, two freestanding emergency centers, regional home health, an EMS fleet of more than 60 ambulances and four helicopters, and a comprehensive eight-trauma center care network, including the region’s only Level 1 trauma facility.
