Hawkins’ Taetum Smith has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Girls Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played Dec. 23-28.

Smith averaged 20.5 points, 5.75 steals and 6.0 assists per game as Hawkins won the Hawkins Holiday Hoops Tournament.

Smith opened with 22 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and six assists in a 65-14 win over Queen City. She hit three 3-pointers in the game.

Smith had 25 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists in a 73-30 victory over Cumberland Academy.

Smith had 21 points with five assists and three steals in a 62-30 win over Grace Community. Smith was 4 of 5 from downtown in the game.



In the championship, Smith had 15 points and seven assists in a 37-29 victory over Tyler HEAT.

In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):

Brook Hill junior Indeya Williams averaged 18.0 points 8.7 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, 4.3 steals and 2.3 assists per game to be named the MVP in the FBA Lady Saints Christmas Classic. Williams had 25 points and 17 rebounds in the championship game victory over First Baptist Academy. Junior Savannah Onley averaged 11.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.7 steals per game. She had 16 points and three steals in the championship game. Junior Remy Tonroy averaged 7.7 points, 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game. She had 17 points and four assists in the opening round against Harvest Christian Academy.

Troup junior Qhenja Jordan averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 steals and 8.0 rebounds as the Lady Tigers won the Glen Evans Classic. Senior ZaQuirah Jordan averaged

Mineola’s Jayla Jackson averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the Kiwanis Classic Tournament in Corsicana. She had 17 points in the championship game as Mineola took first place.

Broaddus’ Macie Cook, the younger sister of Rusk girls basketball coach Will Kollet, averaged 11 points and 15 rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs upset No. 1 Martin’s Mill in the semifinals, and Cook had 20 points and 20 rebounds in the championship loss to Class 3A Rains.

There were no new state rankings this week because of the holidays.
