LINDALE — Lindale’s basketball teams ended 2024 with a District 15-4A sweep of Brownsboro.

The Lady Eagles won a defensive slugfest against the Bearettes, 29-22, and the Eagles grabbed a 75-70 overtime victory over the Bears.

GIRLS

Scoring was hard to come by for both teams.

It was 0-0 more than four minutes in until a 3-pointer by Kynsie Daniels with 3:48 on the clock. Just 36 seconds later, Chyann Stidham made a free throw to give Brownsboro a 4-0 lead.

Lindale’s first points came with 1:42 on the clock with a steal and runner by Ella Hutchens. A Kennedy Miller jumper in the final minute made the score 4-4 after the first quarter.

Each team only made one field goal in the second quarter with six free throws also being made. Tiykeah McKenzie was fouled with less than a second on the clock, making one of the attempts to give the Bearettes a 10-8 halftime lead.

For the third straight quarter, Brownsboro made just one field goal. With the Bearettes leading 12-10 the Lady Eagles got a 3-pointer from Miller and a putback by Miller to go in front. Lindale led 17-14 after the third quarter.

The Lady Eagles started the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run to push the score to 24-14.

Brownsboro, which had three made field goals for the first 28 minutes of the game, got a layup from Natalee Smith with 3:58 remaining on an assist by Stidham, and Stidham then hit a triple with 2:21 left to cut the score to 26-20.

Madison Devisscher knocked down a huge three for Lindale with 1:25 remaining to push the score back to 1:25.

Stidham answered with a bucket with 51 seconds on the clock as Brownsboro doubled its field goal output from the first 28 minutes in the final four minutes, but that was the final score for either team as Lindale took a 29-22 victory.

“Brownsboro, we’ve always had a tough time against them,” Lindale head girls basketball coach Daniel Devisscher said. It’s nice to come out on top this time.”

Brownsboro finished 6 of 38 from the field — 3 of 29 for the first three quarters. Lindale was 3 of 21 from the field in the first half before going 9 of 20 in the second half, making it 12 of 41 for the contest.

“Defensively, I thought our girls did a really good job of jumping in and out of our different defensive packages,” Coach Devisscher said. “Our ball pressure was really good. Sometimes, we over pursued, so we got in foul trouble early. We had to go back in and correct that and came back out, and I felt like our girls did a much better job of maintaining our distance and pressure on defense.”

Miller and Ma’Kaylin Smith each finished with 7 points. Smith also had six rebounds and four steals. Hutchens had 6 points, 13 rebounds, eight blocks and five steals. Devisscher scored 5 points, and Abigail Lee and Kortlen Pierce each added 2 points.

Stidham led Brownsboro with 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Daniels had 4 points. Parmer Fitzgerald, Natalee Smith and McKenzie all had 2 points, and Sarah Hughes and Sadie Piper each had 1 point. Riley Smith grabbed eight rebounds, and McKenzie and Daniels each had five steals.

Brownsboro had won eight straight against Lindale with the Lady Eagles’ last win in the series coming Dec. 2, 2011.

Lindale (12-10, 3-0) will be at Canton on Friday. Brownsboro (14-9, 1-3) will host Kemp on Friday.

BOYS

Lindale made 14 3-pointers on the way to a 75-70 overtime win over Brownsboro.

Seven of those triples came from Heath Miller, who finished with a team-high 26 points — 23 after halftime. Miller had just one made 3-pointer in the first half and missed his first two attempts of the second half before making three of his next four.

Her also made three of his first four attempts in the fourth quarter, including breaking a 57-57 tie with a trey with 1:38 remaining in regulation.

Brownsboro used a bucket and free throw by Keaton Delaney — with a Ty McCoy free throw sandwiched in between — to tie the score at 61. Miller used a pump fake to create a look at the potential game-winning three at the buzzer, but the shot rimmed out, sending the game to overtime.

Miller made five free throws in the bonus frame as the Eagles outscored the bears 14-9 in the extra period.

“It may not fall in the first half, but you’ve got to come out and keep shooting,” Miller said. “Shooters shoot, and that’s just what I did. I came out and kept shooting.”

McCoy broke the tie with two free throws to start overtime. Reed Carnathan scored twice to push the score to 67-61. Mann Scott tried to keep the Bears in it, helping cut the score to 69-66 with 45 seconds left, and after a Miller free throw, had a putback with 34 seconds left to cut the score to 70-68.

Reed Carnathan made a free throw to make the score 71-68, and Keaton Delaney’s tying three was no good. Miller made two more free throws to put the score at 73-68 with 20 seconds to play. Scott hit two free throws with nine seconds left, and Miller hit two more with seven seconds left to make the score 75-70, and time ran out on Brownsboro.

“Battle-tested,” Lindale head boys basketball coach Cedeno Clark said. “We definitely like the points on our side for having 75, but we’ve got to get it better and corrected on the defensive side. We went in knowing that 15 (Scott) was an outstanding offensive player. We’ve got to find ways to be able to contain guys like that for sure. But we’re always grateful for the win for sure.”

Scott finished with a game-high 39 points and 15 rebounds. Delaney had 20 points for the Bears. Gabe Hendricks had 5 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Jacob Fulgham had 3 points and eight rebounds. Peyton Brockway had 2 points, and Lane Shaw added 1 point and six rebounds.

The score was tied at 14 at the end of the first quarter. Brownsboro led 34-29 at halftime as Scott had 20 points and eight rebounds in the first half. The Bears led 51-46 after three quarters. Lindale opened the fourth quarter with a quick 5-0 spurt and took a 54-53 lead with 4:00 left on a David Lindig three. Brownsboro came back and took the lead before Miller took it right back for the Eagles with a triple with 2:29 on the clock. A Hendricks putback tied it at 57 before Miller’s final triple of the night.

McCoy had 17 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Reed Carnathan had 14 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Lindig had 6 points. Brooks Provo scored 5 points. Davis Carnathan had 4 points and seven rebounds. Evan Cockrell scored 3 points. Aidan Blanco chipped in with five rebounds and three blocks.
