VAN — The No. 10 Chapel Hill Bulldogs scored a 58-54 win over Bullard on Saturday in the consolation championship of the Farmers Insurance Van Holiday Classic.

After opening the tourney with a 49-40 loss to Nacogdoches, the Bulldogs reeled off wins over Nacogdoches Central Heights (70-65), Spring Hill 48-38) and Bullard.

Dee Brisbon led Chapel Hill with 15 points, including a 3-pointer.

Others scoring for the Bulldogs were: Marquis Collins II (12 points, 8 steals), Trevor Brooks (10 points, 1 3-pointer), Malik Gee (7 points), Jorden Ford (5 points, 1 3-pointer), Isiah Mayfield (4 points), Anthony Smith (3 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Ryder Steele (2 points).



The Bulldogs (17-4) are scheduled to play host to Pine Tree in a District 16-4A contest. Games (FR, JV, Varsity) are scheduled to begin at noon.

Against Chapel Hill, Layne Alexander had 20 points. Tyler Lamberth had 15 points.

Bullard lost to Forney JV 36-30. Lamberth had 10 points.

Bullard defeated Gilmer 82-57. Layne Alexander had 21 points. Lamberth had 13 points. Luke Alexander had 12 points. Dylan Kress had 11 points.

Bullard defeated Gladewater 78-34. Layne Alexander had 31 points. Luke Alexander had 11 points.

Bullard will host Longview at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.

}Athens won the Farmers Insurance Van Holiday Classic with a 67-64 victory in four overtimes over Ennis in the championship game. It was the Hornets’ first tournament championship since 2018. Van defeated Greenville 47-44 in the third-place game.
