Rose City teams unbeaten in Tyler ISD Whataburger tournament

Tyler teams may be on a course to meet in the tournament they are hosting.
Tyler Legacy and Tyler High both captured big wins on Friday in the first Tyler ISD Whataburger Holiday Hoops Classic.

If both the Lady Lions and Lady Raiders win on Saturday morning they will meet in the championship game. They are also scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve at Tyler High.
Friday’s eight games were held at Tyler Legacy High School, while Saturday’s scheduled eight contests are slated for Tyler High School.
In games on Friday, Tyler High won over Fort Worth Southwest (84-13) and Alief Hastings (65-39) with Tyler Legacy defeating Killeen (68-33) and Rowlett (56-25).
In other games, Mesquite won over Alief Hastings (58-43) and Fort Worth Southwest (67-23). Rowlett downed Dallas Molina (73-24) and Killeen topped Dallas Molina (79-19).
Pool A includes: Tyler Legacy (2-0), Rowlett (1-1), Killeen (1-1), Dallas Molina (0-2); Pool B includes: Tyler High (2-0), Mesquite (2-0), Alief Hastings (0-2), Fort Worth Southwest (0-2).
The schedule for Saturday includes — Main Gym: Tyler vs. Mesquite, 10 a.m.; Dallas Molina vs. Tyler Legacy, 11:30 a.m.; Pool B No. 2 vs. Pool A No. 2, 2 p.m.; Pool B No. 1 vs. Pool A No. 1, 3:30 p.m.; Auxiliary Gym: Rowlett vs. Killeen, 10 a.m.; Alief Hastings vs. Fort Worth Southwest, 11:30 a.m.; Pool B No. 4 vs. Pool A No. 4; Pool B No. 3 vs. Pool A No. 3, 3:30 p.m.

Both Tyler Coach Bobby Reynolds and Tyler Legacy Coach Ross Barber credited the defense of their clubs in the big wins.
TYLER LEGACY LADY RAIDERS
In the victory over Rowlett, Senoj Jones led the Lady Raiders with a double double, 16 points and 12 rebounds. She added two steals and two blocks with limited action in the second half as Tyler Legacy had a 32-14 halftime lead.
The Lady Raiders limited the Lady Eagles to three points in the third quarter and did not allow double digits in any period.
Also scoring for TLHS were Zareya Ceasar (14), Nichole Baldwin (7), Shanaya Shaw (6), Zion Smith (3), Jaida Sanders (3), Na’Coria Jackson (2), Holland Pine (2), Grace Mills (2) and DeCaila Bailey (1).
Ceasar added eight rebounds with five each from Smith and Jackson. Bailey and Pine had four boards each.
Daley Wilson led Rowlett with eight points, followed by Kristyn Galloway (6), Mariah Morgan (6), Amyah Jones (3) and Aarian Fairchild (2).
It was the sixth straight win for the Lady Raiders as they improved to 20-2. The Lady Eagles are 6-15.
TYLER LADY LIONS
In their first game of the day, the Lady Lions rolled to the win over FW Southwest. They broke out to a 27-0 first-quarter lead.
Four Lady Lions were in double figures with Bralyah Miller leading the way with 18 points. She was followed by LaTajia Hambrick (16, all in the first half), Jaz Moore (13) and Kalyse Buffin (11).
Others scoring for THS were Ma’Kayla Taylor (8), Jer’Miya Rice (7), Ameri Goss (4), Bra’Shia Miller (4) and Amori Gee (2).
Unique Baker led the Lady Raiders with 4 points, followed by Janiya Odom (3), Tonjali Shockley (2), Cyrin Jones (2) and Jaxin Harkless (2).
In the victory over Alief Hastings, the Lady Lions did not allow a bucket in the second half until 7 seconds were remaining in the game. It was a basket by Ar’janeayeah Nelson.
Tyler led the Lady Bears 35-29 at halftime, but allowed only one bucket and eight free throws in the second half.
Pacing the Lady Lions were Buffin (23 points, 10 steals), Rice (16 points, 11 steals) and Miller (13 points, 4 steals, 2 blocks, 4 rebounds).
One of Buffin’s shots was a reverse two-hander while being fouled. She made the free throw to complete the three-point play.
Others scoring for Tyler were Taylor (5), Hambrick (2), Ariel Johnson (2), Goss (2) and Moore (2).
Hambrick added eight steals.
Amyah Weathersby led the Lady Bears with 19 points, of which 16 were in the first half. The Lady Lions clamped down on her in the second half. She had 13 rebounds.
Others scoring for Hastings were Favour Emeka (13), Nelson (4), Wilymr Antoine (2) and Fatou Kamara (1).
It was the ninth consecutive win for Tyler as the Lady Lions go to 18-4. The Lady Bears are 14-7.
