Girls Basketball Notebook: Lindale’s Ella Hutchens takes weekly honor

Lindale’s Ella Hutchens has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Girls Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played Dec. 16-21.
Hutchens averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 5.0 deflections, 3.0 steals and 7.5 blocks in district games against Kemp and Athens.

In a 58-19 win over Kemp, Hutchens played limited minutes with the large early deficit, and she still logged 23 points, eight rebounds, nine blocks, three assists, five steals and nine deflections.
Against Athens, she had 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and six blocks.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
Tyler Legacy’s Senoj Jones averaged 17.0 points in district wins over Royse City and Longview.
Tyler’s Kalyse Buffin scored 26 points in a win over Whitehouse and surpassed the 2,000-point mark for her career. Bralyah Miller scored 27 points in a 62-20 win over Nacogdoches.
Bullard’s Lanna Kidd was 5 of 8 from 3-point range and had 15 points, eight rebounds and seven steals in a 59-24 win over Kemp.

Hawkins’ Taetum Smith had 21 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals in a 53-29 win over Harmony.
Neches’ Sealy Hines and Joely Jenkins combined for 71 points against Mineola and Penelope.
