7-Mile Rivalry: Arp boys, Troup girls take wins

ARP — Landon Smith and AB Martin both posted double-doubles as the Arp Tigers picked up a win in the 7-Mile Rivalry for the first time since Feb. 2, 2021, defeating Troup 68-41 on Tuesday night inside John Mills Parker Gymnasium.
Smith had 20 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks, and Martin had 16 points and 16 rebounds for Arp (10-3, 1-0).

Arp jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead and then led 14-8 before Carson Davenport knocked down consecutive 3-pointers for Troup to tie the game at 14. Martin scored inside to put Arp ahead 16-14 after the first quarter.
After a Caden Graves layup tied the score to start the second quarter, Smith hit back-to-back triples to spark a 10-0 Arp run. The Arp lead was 33-25 at halftime.
Arp was able to get its lead to double digits, 45-34, after three quarters. Arp opened the fourth quarter on a 13-2 run and outscored Troup 23-7 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Cade Ward had 11 points for Arp. Cornelius Pierce had 9 points, eight rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks. Jaylon Ferguson had 6 points, Jaxon Schminkey 4 and Demarcus Wade 2. Schminkey also had six rebounds.
Caden Graves led Troup with 12 points and five rebounds, and Carter Graves had 10 points and five rebounds. Other scorers were Davenport 8; Logan Chambers 3; Bryce McElroy 2; Tre Anderson 2; Braxton Barton 2; and James Pearce 2. McElroy and Barton both grabbed five rebounds, and Anderson had four assists.
Troup (10-4, 0-1) will host Gladewater on Friday, and Arp will play at No. 2 Tatum.

Troup 41, Arp 21 — It was a Jordan steal fest as ZaQuirah and Qhenja Jordan combined for 18 steals in a 41-21 victory for the Troup Lady Tigers in the 7-Mile Rivalry.
Troup had 25 steals as a team as the Troup pressure gave Arp’s offense trouble all game.
ZaQuirah Jordan finished with 20 points and 10 steals. JaKeira Davis had 7 points and four steals. Qhenja Jordan had 6 points, five rebounds and eight steals. Hannah Cearley had 4 points and five rebounds. Amari Shepard and Jacey Benge scored 2 points each, and Paisley Skinner grabbed five boards.
Troup jumped out to a 9-0 lead, and a free throw by Hannah Martindale cut the score to 9-1 after the first quarter.
Troup stretched its lead to 18-1 with nine straight points from ZaQuirah Jordan. Consecutive baskets from Maddie Birdsong gave Arp its first two field goals of the game, but a steal and layup by Qhenja Jordan followed by two layups from ZaQuirah Jordan pushed the score to 24-5 at halftime.
The Troup lead was extended to 37-9 after three quarters.
Arp scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, but the game was already out of reach.
Zariah Tatum led Arp with 7 points. Birdsong had 6 points and five rebounds. Sariah Tatum scored 3 points. Landry Langley had 2 points. Neci Potts had 2 points and six steals, and Martindale added 1 point.
Arp (7-16, 0-3) will play at Tatum on Friday, and Troup (13-3, 3-0) will host Gladewater.
