Nicholas Loftin, a firefighter with Sabine Fire and Rescue in Gregg County’s Emergency Service District 2, was part of a crew that responded to the fire at his mobile home in the 22900 block of Interstate 20 East. Several fire stations from Smith County’s Emergency Services District 2 also assisted in the response.
Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue said his office arrived at the scene around 12:10 p.m. Sunday. Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Hogue said officials don’t suspect foul play.
No one was inside the mobile home at the time of the fire. The blaze was reported when a resident returned home. Firefighters contained the flames to the residence, and no injuries were reported. A preliminary investigation indicated the fire started near the center of the mobile home, which was considered a total loss.
