John Michael “Mike” Sterritt
TYLER — Mike Sterritt died peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at UT Health of Tyler, TX. Born on December 28, 1948, in Tyler, he was 75 years old.
He attended New Mexico Military Institute in High School and then attended LA Tech and Northwestern. At the age of 16 he started working in the oilfield on a drilling rig for Sawyer Drilling. In 1970 he went to Mud school for Baroid. In 1971 he became a Mud Engineer. 1973 he would then move to Bossier City, LA as a Mud Engineer. In 1975, he was transferred to Jackson, MS as a District Salesman. He lived there till 1977 when he became the District Manager of Baroid in Harvey, LA. In 1982 he relocated to Shreveport, LA as Area Manager. Taking Care of the Southeast and Northeast US. In 1992 he was transferred to Tyler, TX as the Sales and Operations Manager. He ended his career with 44 years at Halliburton in 2015 as the Sales Manager.
When in Shreveport he served on the Ark La Tex Oilman Board for 25 years. He loved playing golf and hunting.
He and Mitzi were married in 1971 and grew up together in the oilfield. They both loved to entertain and were very good at it.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mitzi Bower Sterritt; son, John Michael Sterritt, Jr. and wife Michele Sterritt of Lafayette, LA; daughter, Tammie Lowe and her husband Jeff Lowe of Shreveport, LA; his grandchildren: Aaron Broussard, Stephanie Mersky and husband Steve, Jennifer Lowe, Zackary Lowe and Alex Lowe; his siblings: Ricky Sterritt and wife Sherry, Connie Sterritt and Patti Moran and husband Kevin; his one living aunt, Patsy Bayless; three nieces, and three nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Peggy Sterritt, his grandparents, John and Gladys Sterritt, and one nephew Ben Rabourn.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Clint Schoolfield, Robert Merrill, Tom Dargewich, David Pickett, Mark Cox, Randy Tolar, Aaron Broussard, Zachary Lowe, and Alex Lowe.
Visitation will be held at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler, TX on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 1:00 pm with services to follow at 2:00 pm with M.L. Agnew officiating.
