Safety issue on the road

I would like to share my opinion on the left turn from University Boulevard to Old Omen Road heading east. For context, the left turn at this light is a green arrow with a sign that reads “Left turn yield on green” which means if the light is green, you have to yield to oncoming traffic.

This is a hazard to motorists because the overwhelming majority of stop lights are left turn yield on yellow arrow while green lights mean you have a protected turn.

While it does have a sign to help inform you of this rule, the average driver would assume it is green so they can go and not read the sign.

Lock, stock and barrel

For those who argue some of Trump’s nominees will not be approved by the Senate, you may not be paying attention to the news in the last 48 hours.

Sadly, in my opinion, they all will — yes all — be approved. It’s time to accept the fact that the Republican Party is owned lock, stock and barrel by President-elect Donald Trump.

Republican senators fear Trump’s usual rhetorical gambit: threatening possible detractors that they will be primaried by someone who pledges total fealty to Trump. What makes this especially worrisome is that all three branches of government seem solidly in Trump’s corner. Therefore, it is hard to imagine where resistance will occur.

As a scholar of communication, I must ask: What new problems with the nominees that haven’t already been revealed could persuade Republicans suddenly to break ranks? There doesn’t seem to be what Aristotle called the available means of persuasion.
