BULLARD — Brook Hill won its 14th straight game and also completed a 4-0 weekend to win the Brook Hill Invitational with a 64-37 victory over Rusk on Saturday inside the Herrington Sports Center.

“It was nice to see,” Brook Hill head boys basketball coach Jacob Agnew said. “We’re starting to figure some things out. We’ve still got a long way to go, but the way they handled business from game one to this last game was good to see.

“We couldn’t buy a bucket in the first half and a lot of the second half, but we finally found a way on the defensive side to kind of stretch the lead and finish the game. I was proud of those guys for that.”

It was a balanced attack for the guard. Roy Rudzinskas led the way with all 20 points, scoring all of those points in the first three quarters. He also had three blocks and three steals. Majus Afanasjev and Beck Langemeier both scored 14 points, and Langemeier also had a triple-double.

Langemeier had 14 rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals to go along with his 14 points..

Brook Hill jumped out to a 9-2 lead, but Rusk battled back to cut the score to 13-10 before a Rudzinskas three at the buzzer gave the Guard a 16-10 advantage.

With the score at 24-22 late in the second quarter, Rudzinskas made a layup at the buzzer to send Brook Hill into halftime with a 26-22 lead.

Up 31-28 in the third quarter, the Guard went on an 11-0 run to build the lead to double digits. Adrian Tumblin had a steal and jumper and a 3-pointer in the final 54 seconds to cut the score to 42-33 after three quarters.

Also in the tournament, Brook Hill defeated Carlisle (87-25), All Saints (62-37) and Douglass (60-32).

The win over All Saints marked career win No. 200 for Agnew.

“One of my players asked me about it and I was like I’ve actually never won any games, but I’ve been on the sidelines for a lot of good games with a lot of good players,” Agnew said. “It’s just awesome.

“I’ve had the chance to coach six sets of brothers, and my assistant coach (Grant Hanks) is one of my former players, so seeing all of those things come full circle and being able to be a part of that is awesome to look back on right now.”

Brook Hill (17-1) will face Douglass again on Dec. 20.
