Girls Basketball Notebook: Winnsboro’s Hadlee Brown takes weekly honor

Winnsboro’s Hadlee Brown has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Girls Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played Dec. 2-7.
Brown averaged 20.6 points, 4.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 3.2 3-pointers per game as Winnsboro went 5-0. Brown shot 57 percent from the field and was 19 of 22 (86 percent) from the free-throw line.

Brown had 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals and three 3-pointers in a 74-28 win over Arkansas Class 3A No. 2 Fouke. She had 14 points, six assists, seven rebounds, five steals and three 3-poitners in an 82-35 win over Cooper. She had 29 points, five assists, four rebounds, three steals and three 3-pointers in a 98-52 win over JJ Pearce. She had 19 points, three assists, three rebounds, three steals and four 3-pointers in a 49-39 win over Class 4A No. 7 Godley. She had 27 points, three assists, four rebounds, two steals and three 3-pointers in a 49-46 overtime win over Class 4A No. 20 Canton in the championship game of the Winnsboro Hoopfest.
Brown was the MVP of the Winnsboro Hoopfest.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
Tyler’s Kalyse Buffin averaged 17.2 points per game and had a game with 10 assists and two games with eight assists. Bralyah Miller had games of 22, 16 and 17 points. She had 17 points, five assists and 10 rebounds in a district win over Marshall.
Cumberland Academy sophomore Makenna Wade averaged 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game to lead Cumberland to a second-place finish in the Alto Tournament. Wade earned All-Tournament honors and won the 3-point shooting contest.
Brownsboro’s Tiykeah McKenzie averaged 10.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 4.0 deflections, 3.3 steals and 2.0 blocks to lead the Bearettes to winning the Great East Texas Shootout.

Canton senior Allison Rickman averaged 15.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists as Canton went 4-1 with wins over North Forney, Liberty-Eylau, state-ranked Sulphur Springs and Hooks and a 49-46 overtime loss to No. 4 Winnsboro in the championship of the Winnsboro Hoopfest. Rickman had double-doubles in four of the five games.
Hawkins senior Taetum Smith averaged 16.4 points, 7.4 steals, 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
All Saints’ Kayla De Campos averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game in three games.
