LINDALE — Ty McCoy scored 27 points as the Lindale Eagles picked up a 63-50 victory over Cumberland Academy in non-district basketball action on Tuesday afternoon at Eagle Gym.

McCoy had just two points in the first quarter — a steal and layup following a Heath Miller 3-pointer to give the Eagles a 5-2 early advantage. Cumberland went up 9-8 on a triple by Byron Gibson off of the glass. Lindale answered with a bucket by Seth Marrow and a trey from Brooks Provo to take a 13-9 lead. After a Kendrick Abbey three cut the score to 13-12, the Eagles held a 15-12 lead after the first quarter with a layup by Evan Cockrell.

The second quarter was McCoy’s quarter. He scored 11 quick points as part of an 11-2 run to give Lindale a 26-14 lead. Gibson then went on a 10-0 run by himself to cut the score to 26-24. McCoy then scored in transition and was fouled. McCoy was down on the court for a bit before getting up to shoot the free throw, which he sank, and then going to the bench for the remainder of the half.

Baskets by Cumberland’s Timo Simmons and Abbey cut the score to 29-28 before Lindale got a floater from Miller and a free throw by Provo to take a 32-28 lead at halftime.

McCoy returned to the court in the third quarter and immediately nailed a 3-pointer. He hit another one to end the quarter, giving the Eagles the 48-39 edge.

Cumberland was able to get the deficit to five, 53-48, with 4:13 to play, but a 3-point play by McCoy sparked a 10-2 run by the Eagles the rest of the way to cap the 63-50 win.

To go along with his big scoring night, MCoy also had nine rebounds and three steals. Miller had 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Provo had 11 points and six rebounds. Other scorers for the Eagles were Cockrell 7; Landon Buck 4; and Marrow 2. Buck added eight rebounds.

Gibson led Cumberland with 15 points and three steals. Ahmad Farrah had 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Simmons had 8 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Abbey and Jake Mahalal each had 7 points, and Mahalal grabbed seven rebounds.

Lindale (2-5) will play at Gladewater on Dec. 3, and Cumberland Academy (2-4) will host Brook Hill on Dec. 3.
