Boys Basketball Notebook: LaPoynor’s Cort Reid takes weekly honor

LaPoynor’s Cort Reid has earned Tyler Morning Telegraph Boys Basketball Player of the Week honors for games played Nov. 8-16.
The senior guard averaged 35.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.7 steals per game in wins over Huntington, Onalaska and Frost.

Reid had 32 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in an 80-37 win over Huntington. He followed with 42 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and four charges taken in an 89-85 victory over Onalaska. Reid then had 33 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals in an 83-36 win over Frost.
In other outstanding performances in the area last week (nominated by coaches):
Tyler Legacy’s Jayden Jones averaged 15.3 points and 4.3 rebounds as the Red Raiders went 1-2 against Crandall, Lufkin and Dallas White. Ja’Corian Oes averaged 13.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
Bullard’s Layne Alexander had 32 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals in a win over Huntington.
Van’s Weston Proctor averaged 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists as the Vandals went 1-1 against Community and Eustace.
Grace Community senior guard Daniel Shankle had 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds, six deflections and two steals and shot 80 percent from the field in a 76-46 win over Cumberland Academy.

Bishop Gorman’s Beau Bender averaged 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals per game in wins over Trinity Christian and St. Mary’s. Jaylon Miles averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 5.0 steals. Ryan Richbourg averaged 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists.
Brook Hill’s Roy Rudzinskas had 27 points and 18 rebounds in a 77-29 win over Nacogdoches Regents Academy.
Tyler HEAT’s Coen Starr had 20 points and seven rebounds in a win over Chapel Hill. Waker Hartman had 20 points and six rebounds in a win over Mount Pleasant CHAAMP HomeSchool.
Jacksonville sophomore Ben Bolton had 23 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists in a loss to Martin’s Mill.
Mabank’s Luke Carter had 26 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 62-33 win over Kaufman.
