Bishop Gorman, Frankston, Lindale players earn weekly honors

The Tyler Morning Telegraph Players of the Week for the final regular season week of the high school football season include: Offense — Cody Carter, Bishop Gorman; Defense — Frankston linebacker Davis Holladay; Special Teams — Lindale placekicker Seth Baggett; and Offensive Line — Bishop Gorman Crusaders.

OFFENSE

Carter was instrumental in helping the Crusaders earn a playoff berth with a 32-16 win over McKinney Christian on Friday in McKinney.

The senior stepped up to rush for 210 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. He hit on 3 of 4 passing attempts for 38 yards and a TD.



The victory moved Gorman to 3-7 on the season and 1-4 in TAPPS Division III District 2.

Bishop Gorman now meets No. 1 San Antonio Holy Cross on Friday in an area playoff game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Holy Cross Stadium in San Antonio.

The winner of the Crusaders vs. Knights game advances to regionals to play either Fort Worth Lake Country Christian or Dallas Shelton.

DEFENSE

For the second time this season, Holladay has been named the defender of the week.

Holladay was instrumental in the Indians’ 21-12 win over Cayuga Wildcats on Friday at Scarborough Stadium in Bethel.

The linebacker had 20 tackles and two tackles for loss.

The win moved Frankston to 7-3 on the season and 4-1 in District 8-2A Division I.

Ater finishing as runner-up in the district, the Indians will take on Italy (7-3) in bi-district on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Yellow Jacket Stadium in Kemp.

The winner between the Indians vs. the Gladiators advances to meet Hamilton (10-0) or Whitewright (7-3) in area.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Baggett also won the honor for the second time this season.

Baggett made a 39-yard field goal, was 6 of 6 on extra points and had eight kickoffs with six touchbacks in the Eagles’ playoff clinching 45-0 win over Henderson on Friday in a District 9-4A Division I game at Eagle Stadium.

Lindale (5-5) opens the playoffs by taking on Orange Little Cypress-Mauriceville (8-2) in bi-district on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Battlin’ Bear Stadium in Orange.

The Lindale vs. LC-M game advances to the area round to meet the Houston Yates (8-2) vs. Navasota (5-5) winner.

OFFENSIVE LINE

The Crusaders line was a key in the victory over McKinney Christian.

The Bishop Gorman starting unit includes: left tackle Andy Mugleston, left guard Caleb Hill, center Matthew Winn, right guard Roberto Lozano, right tackle Jackson Stokes, and key blocker fullback/tight end Curtis Barlow.

Others who see action on the line include: KaMauri Alford and Keanu Nartia.
