Tyler Legacy opens with win; Ja’Corian Oes reaches 1,000 career points

Ja’Corian Oes reached his 1,000th career point as the Tyler Legacy Red Raiders opened the 2024-25 basketball season with a 90-54 win over Crandall at the Pirates’ home gym.

Oes finished with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. He was 2 of 3 from 3-point range for the Red Raiders, who made 12 3-pointers in the contest.

Jayden Jones, who surpassed the 1,000-point plateau last season, had 22 points and two steals.

Sophomore Zyere Ceasar knocked down three shots from downtown to score 17 points, and he also grabbed six rebounds. Josh Hall had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Other scorers for Legacy were JP Rainer 8; KJ Cyres 4; Brenden Murray 4; Tyler Henry 3; Brady Noyes 3; and Gage Nuckolls 2.



Rainer had seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Nuckolls had six rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Henry added four assists.

Legacy (1-0) will host Class 5A No. 22 Lufkin at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Lady Raiders (3-0) will host Garland at 5:30 p.m.

Chapel Hill 69, Elkhart 40

Isiah Mayfield posted a double-double as Chapel Hill rolled past Elkhart in the opener.

Mayfield had 24 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks.

Jorden Ford had 15 points, seven assists and five steals, and Marquis Collins II had 10 points and four steals.

Other scorers were Jordyn Bradshaw 8; Anthony Smith 8; and Ryder Steele 4. Bradshaw added six rebounds and two blocks, and Smith added 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Chapel Hill (1-0) will host Tyler HEAT at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
