Brownsboro, Athens, Grace, Van players earn weekly honors

The Tyler Morning Telegraph Players of the Week for the ninth week of the high school football season include: Offense — Brownsboro quarterback Adam Thompson; Defense — Athens linebacker Jase Warren; Special Teams — Grace Community placekicker Gabe King; and Offensive Line — Van Vandals.

OFFENSE

Thompson had one of his best games of the season in leading his Brownsboro Bears to a 31-30 victory over the Bullard Panthers on Friday at Bear Stadium in Brownsboro.



Thompson hit on 11 of 18 passing attempts for 222 yards and three touchdowns.

The victory moves the Bears to 1-8 on the season and 1-3 in District 8-4A Division II.

Brownsboro returns to play on Friday, traveling to Carthage to play the No. 1 Bulldogs (8-1, 4-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.

DEFENSE

Warren helped the Hornets to a 43-26 win over the Center Roughriders on Friday at Bruce Field in Athens.

The linebacker had 11 tackles, two quarterback pressures, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned 60 yards for a TD.

He was also a standout on offense, rushing for 85 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. He also caught one pass for 15 yards.

The victory moved Athens to 7-2 on the season and 3-1 in District 8-4A Division II.

The Hornets, who have clinched a playoff berth, visit Bullard (2-7, 1-3) on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Panther Stadium.

SPECIAL TEAMS

King made three extra points and a field goal in the Cougars 24-0 victory over Arlington Grace Prep on Friday in Arlington.

He had an average of 41.0 yards on punts, including a long of 55 yards. King added four touchbacks on kickoffs.

King was 3 of 3 on extra points and kicked a 42-yard field goal.

Grace (6-3, 3-2) returns to play on Friday, traveling to Dallas to meet the Bishop Dunne Falcons (0-9, 0-5). Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Earl Hayes Stadium.

OFFENSIVE LINE

The Van offensive line led the Vandals to a 78-18 victory over Paris North Lamar on Friday at Mal Fowler Field at Van Memorial Stadium in Van.

The Vandal line includes: senior center Justus Anderson, senior left tackle Cooper Hullum, junior left guard Collier Bryant, junior right guard Landon Robinson, junior right tackle Karter Broyles, junior tight end JR Ryder Savage and senior H-back Foster Rust.

Quarterback Jaxon Moffatt hit on 20 of 25 passing attempts for 198 yards and three touchdowns. Caden Rowe caught eight passes for 84 yards and two TDs.

Van is 7-2 on the season and 3-1 in District 7-4A Division II.

The Vandals, who have clinched a playoff berth, travel to Texarkana on Friday to face Pleasant Grove (7-2, 4-0). A Van victory gives the Vandals a share of the district title.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Hawk Stadium.
