Tyler Legacy falls to Forney, eliminated from playoff contention

FORNEY — Tyler Legacy entered Friday night trying to either clinch or put itself in prime position for a playoff spot.
Instead, Forney put up 519 yards on the way to a 40-14 win over the Red Raiders on Friday night in a District 10-6A football game at Forney City Bank Stadium. In Rockwall, Rockwall-Heath took a 31-28 victory over the Yellowjackets to officially eliminate the Red Raiders (3-7, 2-4) from the postseason and end their 2024 season.

Forney (4-5, 2-3) will take on Rockwall-Heath (4-5, 2-3) next week in Rockwall in a game where the winner advances, and the loser is eliminated.
Four-star running back Javian Osborne, who missed the previous game with an injury and was wearing a cast on Friday, took the first play from scrimmage 61 yards for a touchdown.
G’yrell Smith followed with a 67-yard touchdown run with 7:59 left in the first quarter to push the score to 14-0.
Osborne scored on a 26-yard run less than a minute into the second quarter to stretch the Jackrabbits’ lead to 21-0. With 7:14 left in the quarter, Osborne used a 19-yard run to set up his third scoring run of the night — a yarder — to make the score 28-0.
Forney added one more first-half touchdown as quarterback Nelson Peterson Jr. — the younger brother of former Palestine High School and NFL standout Adrian Peterson — kept the ball and went 25 yards for the touchdown with 4:09 on the clock. Forney didn’t get the point after, putting the score at 34-0, which remained at halftime.
Chris Turner intercepted two passes in the second quarter for Forney.

Neither team scored in the third quarter, and Ethan Brown intercepted a pass for the Red Raiders at their own 5-yard line in the final seconds of the quarter.
The Red Raiders turned that into a 39-yard touchdown pass from Zach Davis to Za’Bryan Hood, and Brown threw a two-point pass to Beau Slaughter to cut the score to 34-8.
Forney scored on a 7-yard run by Peterson with 7:32 left in the game, and Jaishawn Lee blocked the extra point for the Red Raiders. Davis added an 18-yard touchdown pass to Slaughter with 2:26 remaining, and the two-point pass was no good.
Davis was 16 of 29 for 258 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Von Lane threw for 23 yards. Hood had 10 catches for 166 yards and a touchdown. The Red Raiders had 30 yards rushing.
The Jackrabbits had 387 yards on the ground. Peterson ran for 120 and two touchdowns, Osborne for 115 and three touchdowns, Smith for 99 and freshman Taylen Strange for 67. Peterson threw for 118 yards, and Preston Jackson had five catches for 99 yards.
