MARSHALL 35, HALLSVILLE 7: MARSHALL — On the backs of their elite running game, the Marshall Mavericks (7-2, 3-1) ran all over the Hallsville Bobcats (3-6, 2-2) 35-7 on Friday at Maverick Stadium.

Isaiah Bush and Semaj Gatson carried the offense for the Mavericks, rushing for 132 yards and 128 yards, respectively. Alton Henderson and Denijh Montgomery added 14 yards on the ground.

Gatson started the scoring streak with an untouched 30-yard run for a touchdown to put Marshall up 7-0. Bush followed with a 20-yard touchdown after juking out Hallsville defenders to quickly put Marshall up 14-0.

The pounding on the ground continued in the second quarter when Isaiah Bush scored yet another touchdown, a three-yard rush, to put Marshall up 21-0.

The Mavericks did not just rely on their run game to put them over the Bobcats. Alton Henderson lobbed a pass over on the right side to Raijon Sims for a 25-yard touchdown pass to put Marshall up 28-0 heading into the half.

The only score Marshall came up with in the second half was a 10-yard touchdown run up the middle by Gatson to put Marshall up 35-0.

Hallsville found their way on the board after a 20-yard burst down the right side from Ja’Cayden Bolden gave the Bobcats some positivity in a measly offensive showing. Marshall still led 35-7.

Henderson threw 5-10 for 92 yards and a touchdown, including two big plays for Tyler Johnigan, with the prime play being a bat down intended for Judson Illingworth that landed in Johnigan’s hands. Johnigan finished with two catches for 65 yards.

Up next, Marshall travels to Whitehouse while Hallsville will host Mount Pleasant on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
