VAN 38, S. HILL 16: VAN – Austin Moffatt scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, and the Van Vandals pulled away for a 38-16 win over the Spring Hill Panthers in the District 7-4A Division II opener for both teams at Memorial Stadium.

Van improves to 5-1 with the win. Spring Hill drops to 1-5.

The Vandals led 17-13 at halftime, but the Panthers mounted a 10-play march to open the third quarter and pulled to within one (17-16) on a 26-yard field goal by Brady Meyer.

Van countered with a 9-play drive that led to a touchdown and a 24-16 lead with 2:03 left in the third quarter.

With 6:23 left in the contest, Moffatt scored on a 39-yard run to end a 60-yard drive that put the Vandals on top 31-16, and after forcing a Panther turnover on downs at their own 27-yard line, Moffatt carried three straight times and scored on a 3-yard run to make the final 38-16.



Van took a 3-0 lead in the opening quarter with a 22-yard field goal, but the Panthers drove 74 yards on the next possession and moved on top 7-3 on a Coleman Stout 3-yard run.

The Vandals went on top with a 3-yard run by Moffatt at the 10:52 mark of the second quarter, but Travis Allen’s 14-yard TD run with 5:11 left in the half made it 13-10 Spring Hill after a blocked PAT.

Van moved in front for good with a 57-yard TD pass to make it 17-13.

Spring Hill will host Pleasant Grove and Van will visit Gilmer next week.

GILMER 49, PITTSBURG 0: PITTSBURG – Brady McCown passed for 210 yards and a touchdown, Cadon Tennison added two passing scores and the Gilmer Buckeyes opened District 7-4A Division II play with a 49-0 win over the Pittsburg Pirates.

Gilmer moves to 4-2 with the win while Pittsburg drops to 0-6.

McCown completed 13 of 14 passes for 210 yards, and Tennison was 5 for 6 for 91 yards.

Brendan Webb caught six passes for 96 yards and a TD, and Zade Taylor and Trace Haynes also hauled in TD grbs.

Trillyon Butler carried 10 times for 91 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Daydrion Jimmerson and Taylor added rushing TDs for the Buckeyes, who finished with 473 yards offensively.

HENDERSON 14, MABANK 10: HENDERSON — Playing in a classic ‘trap’ game, the Henderson Lions fought off the Mabank Panthers here Friday night at Lion Stadium to claim a hard-fought District 9-4A win, 14-10.

A week after upsetting 9-4A favorite Kilgore 27-24 on the road, the Lions had all they could handle at home against the one-win Panthers in becoming the only district team to be 3-0 in league play and move to 6-1, clinching their first winning season since 2019 as HHS moves to 6-1 on the season.

The Lions will travel to Pine Tree next week.

Henderson ran just 15 offensive plays in the first half, gaining 55 yards on six rushing plays and 20 yards in the air on nine passing plays in four possessions while Mabank had 29 plays and led 3-0 at the half.

The Lions had just three possessions in the second half, but scored on two and was driving for another score when the game ended.

Jesstin “Meaty” Starling finished with 116 yards on 16 carries and scored both Lion TDs.

JEFFERSON 60, W. OAK 0: WHITE OAK — Thimyus Taylor passed for 327 yards and three touchdowns, Kamran Williams added three rushing scores and the Jefferson Bulldogs blanked the White Oak Roughnecks 60-0 on Friday in District 8-3A Division I action at Roughneck Stadium.

Williams carried 14 times for 165 yards and scored on runs of 7, 40 and 38 yards. Taylor completed 11 of 16 passes and tossed TD strikes of 89 and 5 yards to Chris Love and 55 yards to Travis Gray.

Love also had a 72-yard interception return for a TD. Jeramaine Hopkins scored on a 3-yard run, and Jacoby Morro had a 36-yard TD sprint for the Bulldogs.

Junior Allen rushed for 22 yards, and Jaxsen Ludlow passed for 76 yards in the loss for White Oak.

L-EYLAU 49, GLADEWATER 34: GLADEWATER — Trip Baysinger rushed for two touchdowns and tossed a pair of TD strikes, and the Liberty-Eylau Leopards held on for a 49-34 win over the Gladewater Bears on Friday in District 8-3A Division I action at Jack V. Murphy-Bear Stadium.

The win moves Liberty-Eylau to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in district play while Gladewater drops to 3-4 and 1-2.

The Leopards got on the board just 49 seconds into the game on a 2-yard run by T.J. Stewart — at TD that was set up by runs of 42 and 6 yards by Dequan Prevo.

Baysinger’s 60-yard scoring jaunt at the 8:35 mark put the Leopards in front 13-0, but the Bears countered with a 3-yard TD run by Mason Budro two minutes later to get on the board.

A Baysinger 23-yard run with 6:25 left in the first half put L-E on top 21-7, but the Bears battled back with a 2-yard run by De’ondre Jefferson with one second left in the half to trail 21-14 at the break.

The Leopards went in front 35-14 in the opening six minutes of the third quarter on a 47-yard TD pass from Baysinger to Stewart and a 64-yard interception return for a touchdown by Zaeveya Bell.

The Bears stayed in the game with a 3-yard Budro TD run with eight seconds left in the third to make it 35-21, but Baysinger added to the Leopard lead with a 64-yard TD pass to Jayshaun Weatherall as time expired in the quarter.

A 3-yard TD run by Jefferson and a 1-yard touchdown dive by Budro got the Bears to within 42-34 with 4:04 left, but Prevo raced 22 yards for a touchdown with 1:50 left to make the final 49-34.

The Bears will visit Tatum on Thursday.

DAINGERFIELD 62, Q. CITY 6: QUEEN CITY — Daingerfield scored on offense, defense and special teams here Friday on the way to a 62-6 win over the Queen City Bulldogs in District 10-3A Division II action at Smith-Wall Stadium.

The Tigers led 14-0 after one quarter after TD runs of 15 yards by Trent Boyd and 44 yards by Chase Johnson. Eric Ballesteros booted both extra points.

Queen City got on the board early in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard run by Jason Joffrey, but the rest of the half — and the game — belonged to Daingerfield.

The Tigers closed out the half with a 43-yard TD pass from Johnson to Kenny Mosley, TD runs of 1 and 34 yards by Ashton Williams and a 42-yard scoring strike from Johnson to Reign Wallace to lead 42-6 at the break.

Isaiah Parker tossed a 25-yard TD pass to Mason Williams, and Ja’Kyrin Craver returned a punt 49 yards for a score in the third to give the Tigers a 55-6 cushion heading into the fourth, and Mosley capped the scoring with a 50-yard interception return early in the final stanza.

Daingerfield (2-5, 2-1) will host Hooks and New Boston (0-7, 0-3) will visit New Boston next week.

TYLER 45, CLEBURNE 22: CLEBURNE — Tyler played at the stadium affectionately nicknamed “The Rock” on Friday and the Lions were solid as a rock.

Ashton Arriaga and Cadarius McMiller ran behind a standout offensive line as the Lions rolled to a 45-22 victory over the Cleburne Yellow Jackets in a District 7-5A Division I football game on Brooks Conover Field at Yellow Jacket Stadium.

Tyler improves to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in league play, while Cleburne falls to 0-7 and 0-2.

The Lions totaled 541 yards of offense, while the defense limited the Yellow Jackets to 258 and most of that came in the fourth quarter.

Arriaga rushed for 185 yards and a TD on 17 carries, while McMiller rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns on 11 attempts.

Quarterback Caden Granberry directed the offense and threw for 232 yards and a TD by hitting 13 of 24 passing attempts.

McMiller scored on runs of 7, 34 and 13 yards. Arriaga scored on a 2-yard dash.

LaTreyson Haralson had five catches for 128 yards, including a 35-yard TD reception.

Special teams and defense got in on the act as well.

The Lions take on Burleson Centennial next week at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 on Earl Campbell Field.

The Yellow Jackets travel to Red Oak for a 7 p.m. game on Friday, Oct. 18.

G. SALINE 75, EDGEWOOD 40: EDGEWOOD — The Grand Saline Indians piled up 603 yards on the ground on the way to a 75-40 District 9-3A Division II win over Edgewood on Friday.

Jett Taylor carried 13 times for 279 yards and five touchdowns to go along with a 60-yard interception return for a TD to lead the Indians. Colt Boyd added 12 carries for 224 yards and three touchdowns.

Lucas Pippin had 20 carries for 220 yards and two scores in the loss for Edgewood.

THURSDAY GAMES

U. GROVE 42, O. CITY 14: ORE CITY — Jace Roberts passed for 251 yards and a touchdown and added one rushing score, Hudson Wightman chipped in with a pair of rushing touchdowns and the Union Grove Lions earned a 42-14 win over the Ore City Rebels on Thursday in a District 10-2A Division I battle.

The win moves Union Grove to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in district play while Ore City drops to 0-7 and 0-4.

Roberts completed 10 of 13 passes and carried seven times for 84 yards. Wightman carried five times for 14 yards, and Kohl Sirmans added nine carries for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Judson George had four catches for 67 yards, and Wightman hauled in two passes for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Carter Cooper recorded 22 tackles to pace the Lions on defense. Jace Roberts added 10 tackles, Cason Cowan had a sack, Wightman picked off a pass and Wrigley Roberts recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

The Lions will visit Harleton on Oct. 25. Ore City will host Elysian Fields on Oct. 25.

CHCS 72, FANNINDEL 19: The Christian Heritage Classical School Sentinels rolled to a 72-19 win over Fannindel on Thursday in Six Man action.

Thomas Peeler had 111 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries and caught two passes for 28 yards and two touchdowns in a contest called at halftime due to Six Man’s mercy rule.

Owen Holcomb completed 6 of 7 passes for 105 yards and four touchdowns, and Matthew Mauldin (2-yard run), Slayde Hopson (2-yard run), Luke Stone (27-yard catch) and Eli Roraback (27-yard catch) all contributed touchdowns.

Roraback was 7 for 7 on extra points, and the Sentinel defense came away with four turnovers.

SUB VARSITY

LONGVIEW

The Longview JV A team earned a 26-7 win over Forney.

Von’Darryn Adams returned a fumble 35 yards for a touchdown, and Jacorian Steverson scored on a 4-yard run while tossing a 9-yard TD pass to Se’Kemian Moore. Kaden Fletcher chipped in with a 7-yard touchdown run. Felipe Ayala had two extra points, and Priceton Horton recovered a fumble.

In a 34-6 win over the Forney JV, the Longview JV B squad was paced by Z’Camerohn Parker, who scored on runs of 49, 19 and 4 yards. Isaac Morin returned a fumble 35 yards for a score, and Breshun Perry added a 1-yard TD run.Aaron Ashley had a 2-point conversion pass to Sean Davis, and Campbell Liebengood added a 2-point run.

Jermain Johnson and Matthew Slayton intercepted passes, and Noah Farr forced a fumble.

The Lobo 9th A team earned a 38-25 win over Forney.

Jacaiden Davis threw TD passes of 28 yards to Jakelvin Muckleroy, 24 yards to Zocoren Fogle and 33 yards to Jeremiah Livas, and Muckleroy added to his big night with TD runs of 54 and 15 yards.

Muckleroy, Davis and Jamerion Turner all had 2-point conversion runs. Zacoren Fogle picked off a pass, and Chaztin Wrighten blocked an extra point that returned for 2 points by Xavier Daggs.

In a 30-6 win, the Lobo 9th B team got a 37-yard TD run from Marvin Murphy, TD runs of 11 and 55 yards from Daeveon Pippins and a 1-yard touchdown run by Sontarius Franks. Jordan Jackson had a pair of 2-point conversion runs, and Ian Duncan added one 2-pointer. Mark White recovered a fumble for the Lobos.

Forest Park Middle School fell to Three Lakes in 8th grade (14-6) and 7th grade (30-6) action on Monday.

Logan Biddle tossed a 70-yard TD pass to Hezekiah Bagsby to account for the scoring for the 8th grade. Maddox Esparza rushed for 65 yards on eight carries, and Biddle added 44 yards on six carries. Jaedon Johnson led the defense with five tackles and a fumble recovery. Chance Enriguez and Esparza had four tackles apiece, Biddle three tackles and Keontae Jackson a forced fumble.

For the 7th grade, the TD came on a 25-yard pass from Jeremiah Darden to Javante London.

Darden rushed for 15 yards, and Kayson Saddler had 25 yards on the ground. London finished with three catches for 55 yards, and Messiah Williams had three completions for 55 yards.

Kaysion Young had five tackles, Saddler five tackles and a sack and Williams and London three tackles apiece.

The Judson 7th grade moved to 5-0 on the season wit ha 20-14 win over…

Bryson Mims carried 10 times for 43 yards and a 2-point conversion. D’Anthony Williams had eight carries for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Chris Booker finished with 12 yards on three carries, and James Williams caught one pass for 18 yards.

Defensive standouts were Jeremiah Woods, James Williams, Teknique Taylor, Mason Johnson and Chris Booker. Jose Oviedo handled the kicking chores.

The 8th grade finished in a 0-0 tie and is now 4-0-1 on the year.

Kobe Williams had 67 yards on 10 carries. Grayson Minshew and Williams had one reception apiece, and defensive standouts were Kaiman Flowers, Will Burks, Jadarius Richardson, Ladarius Richardson, Daylon Davis, Ashton Knighton and Matthew Bates.
