Bush’s story begins with the birth of Jon in 1976, a time when she frequently encountered persistent voices predicting that he would not live past 18. Initially dismissing these messages as ‘silly’ and ‘unfounded,’ she said she held a belief in God but remained uncertain about the existence of life after death. It wasn’t until the devastating loss of her son that her perspective shifted dramatically.

In the throes of grief, Bush experienced profound messages from Jon, who urged her to help children. This inspiration led her to establish the Jon, Macy, and Misty Bush Foundation, dedicated to assisting children facing serious medical conditions and providing support to families in need.

Bush wrote “My Borrowed Angel” to offer support and inspiration to parents who have lost children. However, she hopes the book provides solace to anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. She encourages readers to embrace their feelings and suggests that these emotions may be their loved ones reaching out from beyond.

When reflecting on the core message of her book, Bush emphasizes the presence of God and the continued connection with departed loved ones. She encourages readers to recognize that everyone has a purpose, even if it isn’t immediately clear. Through her experiences, Bush illustrates how her “borrowed angel,” Jon, has inspired her to create a foundation that not only supports children with major medical conditions but also funds research for Juvenile Dermatomyositis, a disease affecting Jon’s nieces.

Ultimately, the book communicates the profound message that, through their borrowed time with loved ones, individuals can fulfill meaningful purposes and impact the lives of others.
