Now in its 19th season, the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week program honors players for their performances on and off the field.
Barnes completed 17 of 21 passes for 385 yards and three touchdowns, rushed 22 times for 292 yards and four scores and had three tackles on defense for Shelbyville in a 54-48 win over Waskom. His final TD pass came as time expired to lift the Dragons to victory.
“He is a leader in all regards, on and off the field, for our school,” Shelbyville head coach Jerred Wallace said. “Friday night DJ had a phenomenal game, one of the best I have seen. We had a moment in the game where everything went south, and Waskom erased a 14-point deficit late in the game. DJ led our offense down the field with nerves of steel. With :09 seconds left on the clock we called timeout and designed a play. DJ executed what we asked him to do, and Hunter Harvey made an outstanding catch to win the game with no time left.”
Cota completed 23 of 32 passes for 426 yards and six touchdowns while adding a rushing TD in his team’s loss to Eastwood.
Dunham passed for 457 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 155 yards and three scores in a 71-51 win over Pinkston.
Marie went 16 of 21 passing for 262 yards and five touchdowns and carried 16 times for 195 yards and four scores in a 61-49 win over Yoakum.
