FAIRFIELD — Still waiting for real football weather, but hot and muggy will have to do.

The Fairfield Eagles got after the Brownsboro Bears to the tune of 33-0 on Friday at Eagle Stadium.

Bears Coach Lance Connot stated, “We came out flat, and got behind. We played much better the second half, but we need to be ready from the start.”

There were multiple outstanding players for both teams. The Bears’ Jack Anderson, Javarius Bell, Adam Thompson, Gabriel Hendricks, Curtis Warren, Bralen Kirkpatrick, Micah Strickland, Cade Williams, and Reagan Ford had good games.

For the Eagles, Jose Castaneda, Armando Charles, Kohl Collins, Calyn Wilson, Jaylon Shed, Jason Brackens and Madden McElroy, who had two interceptions, gave great effort.

In the first quarter, the Eagles scored three different ways to take a 12-0 lead. Kieran King kicked a 33-yard field goal and an extra point. Charles tackled the Bears’ Warren in the end zone for a safety. The Eagles’ stud running back Shed, ran in a six yard touchdown.

The second quarter was the same as the first. The Bears would start to move the ball, then a turnover, or a stumble, or a questionable call would stop any momentum. Fairfield scored two more touchdowns, with Collins being the key player for the Eagles. Collins ran 12 yards for a touchdown, then threw a 20-yard strike to Finn Smith. King kicked both extra points.

The halftime score was 26-0 in favor of Fairfield.

The Brownsboro Golden Girls, backed by the Bear Military Band gave the hometown fans their normal superlative performance. Both groups are very entertaining. The Bear cheerleaders did a great job of keeping the Blue and Gold fans involved in the first game away, on the opponent’s home field.

The second half was more of a defensive stalemate. Both teams moved the ball at times, but the defenses met the call until the last few minutes of the game. The Eagles scored at the very end on a 40-yard touchdown pass to McElroy. King kicked the extra point for a final score of 33-0, in favor of Fairfield.

Next week the Bears travel to Caddo Mills. The Eagles will also travel, and go to Buffalo. Fans keep following your kids, grandkids, and friends in their athletic endeavors.
