SEAGOVILLE — After getting the offense going and the defense coming up big in the fourth quarter in Week 2, the Tyler Lions go for their second consecutive win on Friday.

The Lions and the Seagoville Dragons tangle on the football field for the first time. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on James Ray Henry Field at Seagoville Stadium.

Tyler, fresh off a 43-38 win over crosstown rival Tyler Legacy, is 1-1, while the Dragons are 0-2.

The Dragons are in District 5-5A Division II and have dropped games to former Lions coach Ricklan Holmes’ Fort Worth Chisholm Trail Rangers (41-7) on Aug. 30 and Dallas W.T. White (45-7) on Sept. 6.

Seagoville is coming off back-to-back playoff appearances, including four consecutive winning seasons.

After scoring just 14 points in the driving rain in the opener against Marshall, the Lions scored 15 points in the first quarter against the Red Raiders.

“It was a stressful game,” Tyler Coach Rashaun Woods said.

With the Lions leading by five, the Red Raiders drove to the Blue & White’s 13-yard line with 1:15 showing in the fourth quarter. On fourth-and-1, Tyler’s defense rose up and stopped the Tyler Legacy run. The Lions took over and ran out the clock.

“That was big time — it was the difference in the game,” Woods said of the stop. “It was a question if the defense has it in you; The defense was starting to get a little tired, guys were cramping. They stood tall and got the stop, which was big for our program.”

There were a number of big plays also on the offense and special teams.

Caiden Drummer had a 100-yard kickoff return for a TD and wide receiver LaTreyson Haralson hauled in three passes from quarterback Caden Granberry, all for TDs in the second quarter for 50, 10 and 15 yards.

Running backs Cadarius McMiller (23-118, TD) and Ashton Arriaga (14-82, TD) stepped off yardage.

Another big play on defense, was Jeremiah Taylor’s interception in the end zone.

Scheduled to start for the Lions on the offensive line include: center Joe Young, guards Adrian Crispin and Tray Lewis, tackles Trusten Mallard-Foreman and Kabren Edwards, tight end Chris Moore and H-back Sedaedrien McGee.
