TYLER — A Memorial Service for Eileen Frances Branton, 78, of Tyler will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10 a.m. with visitation starting at 9 a.m. The visitation and service will be at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, TX with Pastor Andy Fauss.
Eileen passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, in Tyler, TX. She was born on July 27, 1946, in Alexandria, LA and was the only child of Willie Wade Mercer and Alice Ruth Mercer. Eileen was a member of New Covenant Church and Vineyard Church, in Tyler, TX.
Upon completing Pineville High School, in Pineville, LA she went on to attend and graduate from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in Education. It was at this time in her life that she met her future husband, Jerome Branton. She worked as a teacher and then as a License Vocational Nurse. She finished out her years working as an assistant for Dr. John Scott, DDS. Jerome, Eileen, and their family often traveled to exciting places during their time together, making memories to last a lifetime.
Eileen was known for her hospitality, generous, and gentle nature. She provided a relaxed atmosphere in her home for numerous bible studies, church gatherings, baby showers, pool parties, and Sunday lunches. Her caring personality extended well beyond her own family. She had the gift to lift the spirits of others through hand-written cards and letters.
Eileen was preceded in death by her cherished husband of 54 years, Jerome; her father Willie Wade Mercer and mother Alice Ruth Mercer. Left to cherish her memory is her son Christopher Branton; daughters Amie (Ray) Newman and Ashley (Joey) Thigpen all of Tyler, TX; and four grandsons Julian, Sebastian, Branton, and Tristan; sister-in-law Janice Branton Cooley (Ken) and brother-in-law Jeff Atkins, as well as many nieces and nephews.
