It took three plays for the Tyler Legacy offense to find the end zone in its lone scrimmage on Thursday night at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
The Red Raiders scored four touchdowns on the night, and had a 32-yard field goal by August Williford, while allowing just one Corsicana touchdown. In the live quarter, Legacy outscored the Tigers 14-0.

“I felt like they came out really excited,” Tyler Legacy head football coach Beau Trahan said. “I thought they competed on both sides of the ball really hard. (Corsicana) did some things defensively, and we were able to make some adjustments and good things happened. The guys stayed the course.
“I thought the running backs ran hard. I thought the receivers did good for the most part, and they quarterbacks played well. They both did some really good things. I told them right before we came out here we’re splitting it right down the middle with reps. You make good plays, you stay on the field longer. I was really pleased with both of them. I think we can win with both of them. We’ll continue to see what happens moving forward.”
Zach Davis took the first snaps at quarterback for the Red Raiders. After runs of 10 and seven yards by Micah Pierson, Davis found Za’Bryan Hood for a 53-yard touchdown. On the last play of the first series, Von Lane threw a pass that was tipped, and Hood grabbed it out of the air and went to the end zone for a 70-yard touchdown — his second in the first 12 plays of the night.
The final play of Corsicana’s first series resulted in an interception by Legacy’s Zion Alexander.
The only scoring during the rest of the controlled portion for the Red Raiders was Williford’s field goal.
Corsicana scored on a 17-yard touchdown pass in the final plays of the controlled portion as a Tiger receiver hauled in a catch in the end zone through coverage.

That was the only time all night that Corsicana’s offense put much pressure on the Legacy defense.
“The defense was swarming around, flying around to the ball,” Trahan said. “I loved their passion for the game. You can tell they’re playing with an edge. They’re playing together. We’ve got to clean up the discipline part. We don’t need any of the fights and stuff, and that’s something we’re talking to them about every day. That stuff can’t happen. But as far as the mentality and those kids, I love the way they’re playing.”
In the live quarter, Corsicana got the ball first and was forced to punt. Legacy responded as Lane threw a 58-yard pass to Hood down to the Corsicana 2-yard line. Pierson finished it off with a 1-yard touchdown run.
After forcing another punt by the Tigers, the Red Raiders scored on a 34-yard completion from Davis to sophomore Takaiden Brown.
Hood finished the night with three receptions for 181 yards and two touchdowns.
“It felt really good,” Hood said. “We’ve been doing a good job of practicing every day and talking to the quarterbacks. We’ve just been working and trying to get ready for this Week 1 game against Texas High.”
Among the standouts for the Red Raiders were Nathaniel Kirksey, Ethan Brown and sophomore Nehimijah Forge on defense. Brady Symes and Harris Brownlow made some plays at receiver.
The Red Raiders will open the regular season Aug. 29 at Texas High.
“I want to see us come to work,” Trahan said. “I want to see us locking into the gameplan. I want to see us really focused at practice next week. And I want to see us come out and execute, understanding there are going to be highs and lows, battle the adversity, withstand the early momentum and settle in and go play our Red Raider ball.”
