Brook Hill is coming off of a 7-4 campaign that ended with a 37-13 playoff loss to Arlington Grace Prep.

Senior linebacker/receiver Luke McNeel, senior quarterback Cam Ryle, senior receiver/defensive back Tyler Vining and senior quarterback/tight end Samuel Williams were at a fall sports media day at the CHRISTUS Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute on Aug. 1 to talk about the upcoming season.

“The expectation is to win district and make a deep run in the playoffs,” McNeel said. “That’s the goal we set every year. I think we’re capable. We play some new teams and some old teams that we’ve played before outside of district. We hope to compete, win every week and be as best prepared as we can each week.”

“I think the key is to just be physical and be smart,” Ryle said. “When you’re playing new teams and big teams, you need to be physical, but you also have to be smart with what you do.”

“Like Luke said, we’re expecting to make a deep run in the playoffs, win district and hopefully make a run at the state championship,” Vining said. “We have to be physical, because we’re not the fastest and we’re not the biggest, so we’re going to have to hit people and make our presence known.”

“We just really have to have the mentality that we’re not going to lose and we’re going to be the most physical team on the field, and hopefully we’re going to make a run for that state championship,” Williams said.

Brook Hill will compete in TAPPS Division II District 2 with Grace Community, Arlington Grace Prep, Austin Brentwood Christian, Austin Hyde Park and Austin Regents.

Brook Hill will host Redwater in the season opener on Aug. 30.
