MARSHALL — Marshall animal control officers, along with volunteers from the Friends of Marshall Animals and the Trap and Release team, helped rescue a kitten from a storm drain on Thursday.

The Marshall Police Department, in sharing photos from the rescue, said they received several reports of a kitten stuck in a storm drain near U.S. 59 and Houston on Thursday.

“Our dedicated ACOs were on the scene, but the traffic noise and the kitten’s ability to roam made it tricky to pinpoint the exact location. MFD also pitched in to help, but the elusive kitten managed to stay out of reach,” MPD said.

Volunteers from Friends of Marshall Animals and the Trap and Release team set a trap and some food in the storm drain, hoping for a successful capture. Around 2:30 a.m. they received another animal complaint in the area, and discovered the kitten was in the trap.

Unsure how to get the trap out of the drain, Officer Marshall Duncan, went into the storm drain, retrieved the trap and rescued the kitten.

The kitten, named Stormy, has already been claimed and will soon be heading to their new home after a thorough check-up at the Marshall Pet Adoption Center.

“This rescue was a fantastic example of community effort, showcasing the power of teamwork and determination. Thank you to everyone involved for making this heartwarming rescue possible!” MPD said.
