East Texans earn TSWA all-state honors in Class 2A

Shiner’s Jason Keller and Paeden Vincik took top honors with the release of the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association Class 2A All-State Softball Team, the organization announced on Monday.
Keller, who led Shiner to a 33-3 record, was named Coach of the Year. Shiner defeated Crawford (4-3) in the state semifinals and won the Class 2A championship with a 10-4 victory over Beckville.

Vincik, a catcher, went 5-for-8 at the state tournament with a home run and four RBI to earn tournament MVP honors. For the season, Vincik hit .471 with a .546 on base percentage, an .895 slugging percentage, eight home runs, two triples, 17 doubles and 52 RBI.
Voting was conducted by TSWA members based on nominations from coaches and media members around the state.
Beckville pitcher Bethany Grandgeorge headed up a long list of East Texas players selected for the elite team.
Grandgeorge, who helped lead Beckville to a runner-up finish at the UIL State Tournament, was a first team selection along with DH/DP/Flex Kalysa Roberts of Linden-Kildare.
In the circle, Grandgeorge was 23-6 with a 1.86 earned run average, 222 strikeouts and 21 walks. She hit .573 with nine home runs, 16 doubles, six triples, 73 RBI and struck out four times all season.
Roberts hit .449 with nine RBI and 18 stolen bases.

Overton’s Kayla Nobles (second base) and Kasha Williams (DH/DP/Flex) and Cross Roads’ Brook Locke (outfield) earned second team honors. Nobles hit .523 with six home runs, seven doubles, 10 triples and 38 RBI, and Williams was a .377 hitter with eight doubles, a triple, two home runs and 25 RBI. Locke hit .561 with three home runs, eight triples, 15 doubles, 49 RBIs and 42 stolen bases for the regional finalist.
Beckville’s Emily Grandgeorge was a third team selection at catcher after hitting .470 with two home runs, five triples. 18 doubles, 37 RBI, 51 runs scored and 28 stolen bases.
Honorable mention picks from the area were pitchers Kalyn Ellison of Hawkins and Kelsey Vaught of Overton, catchers Ryli Williams of Hawkins, Shanna Berryhill of Alto, Maddie King of Harleton and Anna Perkins of Overton, first basemen Bailey Quinn of Beckville, Halle Mayfield of Overton and Allyson Mathews of Hawkins, shortstops Lexi Barr of Beckville, Taetum Smith of Hawkins and Hannah Wall of Linden-Kildare and third basemen Kaycee Neville of Linden-Kildare and Gracey Struwe of Beckville.
