Fireworks may have been the culprit in a destructive fire on Fourth of July, the Smith County Fire Marshal said.

The Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause of a house fire that resulted in a total loss Thursday night.

Firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 16900 block of FM 756, also known as Paluxy Drive, reported at 11:45 p.m. on July 4.

Several people were at the home when the fire occurred, but no one was injured, officials said.

The home was a total loss, Smith County Fire Marshal Chad Hogue said.

Multiple local crews responded and battled the fire into the overnight hours.

Hogue said a preliminary investigation shows the fire originated in the garage, and fireworks may have contributed to its cause.

The investigation is ongoing, and no foul play is suspected at this time.
