The Smith County Democratic Party welcomed incoming party leadership and thanked those leaving their positions.
“It is my distinct honor and pleasure to stand before you today as we mark this important transition in our organization,” Democratic Chairman Hector Garza said in a statement to the Tyler Morning Telegraph. “This occasion allows us to reflect on our achievements, express our gratitude and look forward to the future with anticipation and excitement.”
The newly elected party officials will serve the 2024-2026 cycle and be known as the Smith County Democratic Party “Senior Advisory Council.”
“As we embark on this new chapter, let us carry forward the spirit of collaboration, innovation, unity and excellence,” Garza said. “Let us embrace the opportunities ahead with open minds and hearts and continue striving for greatness in all we do.”
The advisory council consists of deputy chairs Dax Alexander and Cam Ray and officers Greg Grubb as secretary and Jamie Mims as treasurer.
“Your willingness to step up and lead is a testament to your dedication and commitment to our mission,” Garza said. “We are confident your fresh perspectives, innovative ideas and unwavering passion will guide us to new heights.”
Garza said the party looks forward to collaborating, supporting, and commemorating the Democratic party’s combined achievements under their leadership.
While celebrating new leaders, he also recognized outgoing members Michael Nichols and Mitzi Rusk, whose contributions as deputy chairs have been invaluable.
According to Garza, their hard work, dedication, and vision have guided the organization through challenges and triumphs. Their efforts will have a long-lasting impact, and their legacy will provide a solid foundation for future growth.
Nichols and Rusk have devoted countless hours and displayed unwavering commitment and thoughtfulness. Garza said, “Your leadership has been a guiding light, and we are profoundly grateful for everything you have done.”
He acknowledged the entire board—past, present and future—to remind them that their collective strength lies in shared purpose and dedication to the cause. Garza said that together, meaningful change and lasting impact can be achieved.
Garza also recognized and thanked the newest committee chairmen and chairwomen, whose appointments were made by the Smith County Democratic Chairman and ratified by the County Executive Committee for their willingness to serve the Democratic party and their forward vision.
