Jewel Dawn Tate
TYLER — Jewel Dawn Tate passed away on June 26, 2024, in her hometown of Tyler, Texas. She was born to Audrey and Gladys Ballenger on March 9, 1934, in Longview, Texas. Dawn was an only child much loved by her parents and grandparents that lived next door.
In 1952 Dawn married Bobby Tate and they began their life together as Bobby served in the Navy. They had love and devotion to God, family, church and community. Both Bobby and Dawn loved to give their resources and time, often hosting in their home where Dawn would cook and serve delicious meals.
Dawn dedicated her life to education. She began teaching pre-school and then found a love for kindergarten. She taught at Kiddie College, Rose Garden Academy and Good Shepherd for a total of 40 years. She was strict, but loving and always found a way to reach every child.
The greatest love Dawn had was for her children, Kathy Hill and her husband Lewis, Randy Tate and his wife Stacey, Bart Tate, and Amy Comstock and her husband Brad. Her three grandchildren, Kennedy Hill, Josh Tate and Audrey Comstock were her pride and joy. They will carry her legacy of kindness, hospitality, love of God and strong devotion to family.
Dawn loved to prepare food and bake goods. She took gourmet lessons and excelled in the kitchen. Her chocolate pie and strawberry short cake could not be topped. There were always people gathered at the table for meals. The children’s friends all found the perfect kitchen to have a great meal and were always welcome. She loved preparing and serving great food and found joy in learning techniques and setting a beautiful table.
Dawn Tate will be found profoundly missed. She had many friends that loved her and served her for the last few years. We know that she will continue to be an inspiration to those that were blessed to have known her.
