The Kilgore Police Department said their 911 Communications Center received calls about a shooting shortly after midnight Sunday at the corner of Thompson and Myrtle streets.
When officers arrived at the scene, KPD said they found one man dead and another man injured. The injured man was taken and airlifted to Tyler. KPD said it was unknown if the suspect was still inside the home, so the Northeast Texas Regional SWAT was called out.
“Detectives worked with persons on the scene and learned the suspect had fled to another residence in the northern part of the city,” KPD said. “A negotiator talked with the suspect and a family member until the suspect exited the secondary location and turned himself into Northeast Texas Regional SWAT and KPD Investigators.”
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and was taken to the Kilgore Police Department, KPD said. Neither the suspect’s name or the man who was killed’s identity have been released.
“Detectives and crime scene personnel will remain on scene,” KPD said. “There is no further risk to the public. Updates will most likely occur on Monday as this investigation is still ongoing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims. Thanks to Gregg County Sheriff’s Deputies and Kilgore Rescue for their assistance.”
