Elliott Spearman is an optimistic young writer who has planned out his entire life based on the success of the novels he has yet to write. When his Uncle Melvin asks him to house-sit his apartment in the big city while he’s away on a business trip, Elliott sees it as the perfect opportunity to finish his novel. Peltier Subaru Dirty Dog Wash, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 18, Peltier Chevrolet Tyler, 2700 West Southwest Loop 323, Tyler. Get your dog washed for free, and Peltier Subaru will donate $25 for each one to local animal care efforts. Microchipping and nail trims will be offered.

Bags & Brews Cornhole Tournament, 2 to 8 p.m., May 18, Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Center, Longview. Event benefits East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance.
